What a great day for the NFL. A ho-hum game, bland commercials, no controversy, a vanilla half time show. Absolutely nothing offensive or interesting took place yesterday.

Yeah, any game that doesn't feature a QB running out of the back of the end zone would be boring to you.

Now THAT'S impressive.

While the game might not have been the most exciting Super Bowl ever...it shouldn't have been so boring. That broadcasting performance was up there with Joe Buck for sucking the life out of the broadcast. They brought down the crowd noise so much it sounded like they were playing to a bored/silent crowd...

/The Who found their groove...eventually.

I was hoping to see Pete Townshend expose Roger Daltrey's nipple, despite Daltrey being of legal age and all...

I actually rather enjoyed the game yesterday. It helped that I was with a ton of friends at one of my local dives and everybody contributed to quite the killer potluck spread. Oh, and half price drinks until halftime didn't hurt either.

In terms of pure numbers of people watching, it was the most watched program ever. However, MASH was still the most watched show percentage wise. In 1983, there were far less people in this country, yet yesterday's game only beat it by half a million people. Still a great showing for the NFL, but numbers like this can be skewed to say what you want.

There were also far less channels. I mean, what was MASH up against?

I think we are a bit spoiled, this decade has seen some great superbowls. They cant all be last minute thrillers. And this one was borderline. But i agree, something about the game was just not interesting to me. I cant explain it. I did eat more wings than any human being should consume though. So there that.

It was a good game, but the announcing was uninspired and as someone said above, the sound mix had the crowd noise dialed down to the point at times it sounded like the game was being played in a library.

Just imagine if Gus Johnson was calling the Tracy Porter INT....

Your experience echoes mine exactly. And I think I ate 11 wings (just the little leg part, not the whole wing/leg combo thing).

I don't know why TV broadcasts insist on reducing the crowd noise so much. I listened to the radio calls of Porter's INT today when I got to work, the place was ROARING.

It didn't come across the same way on TV at all.

I was watching at a bar that was so loud there was barely a chance of hearing any audio. I watched the Porter interception on YouTube and the crowd noise is insane. Was that not the case with the rest of the game?

Also, remember its a neutral site, lots of non-football fans with tickets, and the game- while very good- didn't have a lot of moments where people would be going nuts.

Killer Cars: It was a good game, but the announcing was uninspired

News Flash: American sports announcers are rarely inspiring and often overpaid buffoons. Their ability to state the obvious while offering zero insight it almost admirable.

"Well Bob that play didn't work because he didn't catch the ball. If they want to move the football down the field they are going to have to start getting first downs."

OH MY FARKING GOD REALLY? FIRST DOWNS? THAT'S HOW YOU ADVANCE THE BALL IN FOOTBALL? I'm bringing that tactic back when I coach the peewee team next fall. Thanks for the insight, retard,

As I said before, Manning has nothing to be ashamed of. Porter made a tremendous play and Wayne ran an awful route.

The coaching however left something to be desired. I thought it was especially suspect that, when Brees starting tearing it up in the second half, the Colts made seemingly NO adjustments and kept playing a weak-ass zone for him to pick apart.

That was way better than the "NFC blows out AFC" matchups of the 80s and 90s.

I can't talk about this. It'll drive me insane. Never have I been so disappointed in the coaching of a game.

I said yesterday that even if the Colts lost, the way Manning *owned* that game on offense was just showing he is the greatest ever. I don't take that back at all.

There are probably a few more people now than there was when the M.A.S.H. finale aired?

As a relative number, I am guessing M.A.S.H. still wins?

It's kind of like how they judge movies on box office receipts. Well, since tickets have gone up 400% in 20 years, of course movies now are going to make more gross.

andrew131: Football on TV sucks now. I you want drama listen to it on the radio.

I'm gonna say it's the NFL's idea in order to make it enticing to go to games.

NFL games are better to watch on TV because you see more, but the games are more exciting.

NFL games are more exciting on radio to listen to, but you can't see anything.

This way there's SOME reason to go see a game. (Is there a time delay on TV still for all games, which would make radio broadcast not match up with the TV? I don't listen to the radio.)

I've always been an advocate of having an SAP setting, or another channel altogether, of JUST crowd noise/stadium sounds, no TV announcers. So it gives you the sounds of being there, and plus protects your from wanting to grab the TV announcer by the neck and punching him/her over and over again.

/I know it will never happen, but it's nice to dream.

You know those rating systems are flawed. They don't take in account houses that have, uh, more than two television sets, and other things of that nature.

Thanks, I am on a hot streak, aren't I, haha. Yankees, Saints, the Devils sign the top goal scorer since 2001...the Bulls are a serious drag on my quest to go 4-for-4 in the same season, but we'll see.

As the Saints have shown, pigs can fly, Hell is currently an ice hockey arena, and miracles happen. So fark, maybe there's magic in those Bulls yet.

I personally loved the following exchange, paraphrased:

"He told us he was going to start the game with an onside kick if he had the opportunity"

"Well, he didn't quite have the guts to do it to open the game, but he did it there!"

...yes, he was going to onside kick for the Colts to start the game, retard.

srhp29: It's kind of like how they judge movies on box office receipts. Well, since tickets have gone up 400% in 20 years, of course movies now are going to make more gross.

Well, it's unfair to really compare the other way, too, since there were all of 3 channels at the time, compared to the hundreds we have now.

downstairs: I watched the Porter interception on YouTube and the crowd noise is insane. Was that not the case with the rest of the game?

For that part on TV, you could hear a sizable roar from the crowd, but on literally every other score in the game there was only the slightest increase in crowd noise on the audio (at least for where I was at)

I'll grant you the fact they usually suck at the actual analysis, but even when playing the role of Captain Obvious you don't have to be as vocally flat as Nantz and Simms were last night.

Wasn't the greatest of the recent Super Bowls but then again, it was almost an impossible task to usurp XLII and XLIII. That said ... it was rather dull. What was it? A single sack? A single turnover? The longest play couldn't have been more than forty yards. It was a slow, methodical game. It was, when compared to the previous two... underwhelming.

The opportunity to witness a Manning face offers some redemption. Anyhow. Congratulations, Saints.

The FOX announcers are the best, I think. NBC is a very close second.
