I've actually played this game for a few minutes and I'm sure I still have it in my emulator pile somewhere. It was weird, and I got confused after a minute and just didn't give it that much attention. Most notably, it has none of the mechanics of Sonic, so that's why I didn't last long.

Maybe I should give it more of a go if there's really that much history behind this particular bootleg.

Regarding Sonic 4, though, if Sega figured out that Sonic Rush (the one I played on the DS) was actually pretty good, and New Super Mario Bros. is THE way to do such a game, maybe they've got a shot at making a really good one. Maybe use a bit of the art from SSBB and the B attack in addition to gameplay like Sonic 3?

And where does "Sonic 3D Blast" fit?

/stupid game

2010-02-08 02:17:32 PM
No, stupid.

TFA says "This Sonic 4 game is 14 years old," referring to the Speedy Gonzales ROM hack that was sold on the bootleg market.

Why is TFA a link to gamenewshq.com, but the article is on Kotaku?

Ok, this is apparently the worst possible way to link to a farking article OF ALL TIME. We have a link to "gamenewsHQ" which is actually just a frame that contains a page from a blog called Kotaku, that just discusses an article on 1up.

I thought the blogs that quoted half of a news article was bad enough, but JESUS this is stupid.

2010-02-08 02:38:54 PM
Also subby did you even attempt to RTFA? The new Sonic game is actually new, and this is just some BS filler to garner a link.

In that case, I'm renaming my penis to World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. In mere minutes, I will have millions of new/upgraded/renewed subscriptions for $15 to play with my penis.

Take that!

Could the mods please change the link to

http://www.1up.com/do/blogEntry?bId=9019049

This is the genuine actual article. Kotaku (who I also read and is generally pretty good) did little more than paraphrase this article, and then some douchebag gave you a link that did little more than place it in a frame as a page hits scam. I'm just saying, couldn't somebody have noticed this earlier? I'd like to think that if I was at one of these companies (Kotaku or 1up) that the wrapper stunt at least would have been noticed. You guys link to Kotaku two or three times weekly at least. You even have a little icon for it.

Sonic looked cross eyed in 3. He looked hardcore in 2, and didn't need fancy shields.

I never bought one. Somehow I have 2 sitting in my basement, along with 4 or 5 controllers and a copy of ready 2 rumble boxing. I still have no idea how any of that ended up in my possession, and why their owners won't claim any of it.

Is it just me, or does the character animation of Sonic (in the real Sonic 4) seriously suck? What a total downgrade from the 16-bit version!

Yeah, I checked out one of the Battle Report videos on GameTrailers after I posted that. When they first released images of it back in 2007, it was pretty underwhelming after such a long wait, and as we push into 2010, it just looks more and more dated, particularly compared to games like Supreme Commander 2 and Warhammer 40k 2.

Yes it's true, many of the quests are boring and repetitive experience grinds.

Still there's a ton of back story behind it all; also night elves...hot sexy night elves.

Toejam & Earl was always more fun than Sonic. I don't get why Sonic (run to the right, grab rings, jump on enemies, repeat) beat out Toejam & Earl (random levels, puzzle solving, some strategy required, awesome co-op play) in the decision of which games to keep making sequels for.

Hell... There are more Ecco games than TJ&E games, and the 2nd TJ&E game wasn't very good (or true to the format of the first game).

And yes, they need to get back into making Streets of Rage/Bare Knuckle games, and hiring Yuzo Kyoshiro to compose the score for each one.

I absolutely cannot comprehend the love people have for that game. Ugly, unexciting, and so sluggishly paced that it leaves snail trails.

some people were kids back then. instead of a good new sonic game, some kids got toejam and earl. it was all they had, so they played the shiat out of it, and they think it is one of the best games ever, even tho it was total crap.

it is "goldeneye syndrome", really. crappy to mediocre game + childhood + rose colored glasses = BEST GAME EVARR!

You know what's really dated? Starcraft. Yet millions of people still play it. Besides, by the time it's out it will be polished and awesome. Which leads into my next quote/response...

Bump for the remixed music (new window). I'm listening to Spin On The Bridge by Gecko Yamori... and I always thought the SoR music was influenced by the whole Northern European rave scene of the mid 1990s... this has samples of Prodigy's "Out Of Space" thrown in.

I think I have some listening to do today at work.
