My uncle works here. He had just gone in for lunch when it happened. He said the explosion was so strong he thought a truck had run into his office trailer and was pushing it over.

My Dad called him and the first thing he said was, "I'm alive."

But his partner is doing pretty bad, my Uncle said he was on the ground with blood coming out of his mouth.

Jesus Christ.

Let's pray for these men today.

Apparently they were trying to test a new turbine at the power plant.

Test completed. Don't think it passed.

2010-02-07 01:05:50 PM
For those of you confused, casualties can include injuries and deaths.

2010-02-07 01:06:30 PM
So far the local stations are saying upwards of 100 people injured.

They also said that there can be 300 or more working on any given shift at the plant.

RHMolBio: BAN GAS POWER NOW!

Exactly. Number of deaths in America due to catastrophic incidents at nuclear power plants? Zero. And that includes Three Mile Island. But, obviously, nuke plants are unsafe...

Remember, you can not die and still be a casualty. It's called injury.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Sayano-Shushenskaya_hydro_accident

Sayano-Shushenskaya laughs at your little explosions.

"...I was standing upstairs when I heard some sort of growing noise, then I saw the corrugated turbine cover rise and stand on end. Then I saw the rotor rising from underneath it. It was spinning. I could not believe my eyes. It rose about three meters. Rocks and pieces of metal went flying, we started to dodge them... At that point the corrugated cover was nearly at roof level, and the roof itself had been destroyed... I made a mental calculation: the water is rising, 380 cubic meters per second, so I took to my heels and ran for the № 10 turbine. I thought that I wouldn't make it, I climbed higher, stopped, looked down, and saw everything getting destroyed, water coming in, people trying to swim... I thought: someone must urgently shut the gates to stop the water, manually... Manually, because there was no power, none of the protection systems had worked"
