I always wonder why reporters feel the need to put a person's full name and street address in an article when it really isn't that relevant.

Han shot first.

"Oops! Sorry, bro."

Must have been the new guy.

Did the cop hit his head like this too?

This is not the handyman you are looking for

Hey--that wall was looking pretty damn sketchy.

I don't think it's your position to question the press, ne2d of 123 Fark Place Northwest, near OMGWTF Plaza on the site's central/left side.

You can't fact check "someone reported a home invasion in an east side neighborhood in the past few days". Newspapers are public record, among other things, to keep the police honest.

Yes, but if the perp had been wearing a redshirt he'd have been killed from flying ricochet debris.

Cop will get a paid vacation and will be back terrorizing citizens after he is cleared to come back.

Had I been that guy, I would have hoped he shot me in the leg or something...and then sue the shiat out of them. What an idiot.

That armor they wear makes it very tough to aim...That's stuff is heavy.

After cop shoots innocent guy: "don't worry partner I got you covered" Then they drag the guy out in the street, deny medical care, and get their cover story all together....

VINCENT: Yeah, we were lucky.

Vincent: Okay man, it was a miracle

The cops would probably argue that they "reasonably" believed a crime was happening and so shooting you without warning was a justifiable part of their job and so the officer and department are immune from prosecution.

2010-02-05 10:55:15 AM
At first I thought "If that happened to me, I'm not a person who sues, but I would sue the shiat out of them for attempted murder." Then I realized, any money I would get from the police department would be tax money, and I would be taking public funds that came from other working citizens. Then I realized I would be an asshole.

Another fine job by the local cops.

Can we stop hiring idiots now?

"But I think it's a little overboard to shoot at someone in total compliance with their hands up."

It's not a little overboard, it's farking insane. This is a firing offense at the very least. Not only is the cop insanely trigger happy, he's a dangerously bad shot. What prosecutor wouldn't love to go after this officer if he's ever involved in a future shooting.

2010-02-05 10:58:37 AM
One police officer orders you to put your hands up, the other one shoots you. Sounds like fun times.

It is so that they are not confused with Pam Riggen from the other side of town.

This way, the Beaver and Whitey can give the business to the right Pam.

Perhaps it was simply a premature discharge. I have them frequently.

See, if this happened in Texas, the neighbor could have shot them and taken the cops totally out of the equation. Then you don't have to worry about anyone living long enough to embarrass the police department.

well looks like it's time for the monthly "CSPD sucks" thread on Fark, which means it's time for my monthly post. luckily extreme budget cuts is "forcing" the city to cut back on police prescence and even get rid of an entire vice-squad, so soon enough we here in the Springs will have more of a chance of getting shot by errant criminals instead of cops, like the way it should be.

"I'm not angry," Kevin Rogers told the Colorado Springs Gazette. "I understand that they're in a tough position. I assume that they will probably address their protocol on situations like this."

Yeah...That ain't gonna happen. If you don't take them to task, they certainly won't do it for you.

If the cop had managed to kill the guy I bet dollars to donuts that a gun, a stolen car stereo and a baggy of crack would have been found on/near the body.

Maybe they should send the cops into the tent cities... Maybe it would help with the homeless problem.

Tried my best, but couldn't find the picture of the "girl" stormtrooper who just so happened to be a guy with a slim waist. The one female storm trooper has a tribal tattoo around her belly button. I've been to all the Star Wars Celebrations so far and that's what I have seen. But then again, by now I'm sure plenty of people have the boobtrooper outfit.

2010-02-05 11:15:29 AM
Stormtroopers are never at their post. Also, they can never find the droids they are looking for.

Stormtrooper 2: "I hit a bird once."

Meh, cops everywhere shoot like stormtroopers. Cops shot my wife's ex-husband after he pointed a gun at them and despite hitting him 3 or 4 times, he unfortunately survived to continue to torment us. And of course he was released early from prison because pointing a shotgun at a cop isn't a violent crime

But then I would realize that I just got farking shot by an even bigger asshole and I'd take the farking money...

Sounds like a negligent discharge due to stress and improper trigger control. Under adrenaline-fueled stress you tend to grip tighter on the gun, which can cause you to unintentionally pull the trigger. You won't even realize that you're applying pressure to the trigger until the gun goes off. This is one reason why you shouldn't put your finger on the trigger until you've made the decision to shoot.

2010-02-05 11:21:08 AM
This just in:
The police have absolved the cop of any wrong doing. Testing has indicated that he is twitchy from parkinsons, and to punish him for having a disease would be mean.

Made that up, like you didn't know.

2010-02-05 11:21:43 AM
LOLOLOL
If they had actually hit him.. we would be reading a story about how a handyman made a "threatening gesture" at the police officers and (if he lived) would be charged with assaulting an policeman.

2010-02-05 11:21:50 AM
I agree these guys are under a lot of stress and should be cut some slack, but sometimes you just have to say WTF?

Here's your storm trooper candidate though. One cop. One gun. Nineteen rounds. No hits. Link (new window)

It's not impossible. I used to bullseye womp rats in my T-16 back home, they're not much bigger than two meters.
