Lost Thought 00: You didn't marry him because of his loyalty, honey

Uh, what do YOU think she married him for. Because she was the successful one in the couple. She dropped everything to run his campaign and have a family.

This is my favorite part:

In an AP interview, Sanford called mistress Maria Belen Chapur his "soul mate" and admitted "crossing the line" with other women while he was married.

Him saying nothing would have been worlds better than admitting this. Not only did we find out there were more (he could have just said it was this one) he said the Argentinian woman was his soulmate (he could have just said it was a short time mistake).

In this one interview, he ruined his marriage and his political career.

/makes me giggle everytime

From an outsider's view, it's pretty easy to judge, especially in hindsight.

But, uhh, yeah, she probably should have seen that coming...

Here's the only reason that Sanford hasn't been pressured to resign:

Is this supposed to be a euphemism, because it sounds like she's saying he's been heading for stupid since before day one.

It truly amazes me how some women can construe almost any obvious failing into "sweet."

Call me crazy, but if my betrothed told me he didn't want "fidelity" in the marriage vows, I'd head for the door right then. Save everyone the trouble, ya know?

My old boss gave me a great piece of advice once: Only cheat with another married person. I've never tested this out, but it really rang true at the time.

Solves some problems, not all problems...or so I've heard.

This means he wasn't actually cheating after all. If he never vowed to stay faithful, then he didn't break his vows. She entered into a marriage with an explicit lack of expectation of fidelity. She got what she signed up for.

Dammit so much - if you dont wanna be in a faithful relationship, then dont get into one!

It's not rocket surgery. Look at the person you are in a relationship with right now. If you think for one second that you might want to fark someone else at some point later in your life, then a serious relationship is not for you, and you should just get out.

/Still bitter about being cheated on.
//I'll get over it.

Unless the other person's marriage falls apart and they're so emotionally unstable they want to make someone as miserable as they are. That or they think that they can break up your marriage and be with you.

Really, there's very little that could go wrong.

2010-02-03 10:07:36 PM
While I have a lot of sympathy for her. The fact that he didn't want to include fidelity in the marriage vows SHOULD have had her running and screaming for the door.

Oh, it's far from infallible. No doubt. I just thought it was a rather funny insight at the time.

Well, she apparently signed up for marriage with his explicitly saying he would not take a fidelity vow. While that may not be completely understanding and agreeing, it's still a big farking red flag.

By the way, I should add that I'm not saying that this guy isn't a douche, but that she's partially to blame for marrying said douche.

It's the personal version of Mutually Assured Destruction. Not ideal, but apparently keeps the peace.

Maybe she shoulda noticed something was amiss when her future hubby asked for United Airlines seat upgrades and free parking at the Columbia airport as wedding gifts.

Serioulsy though, I gotta ask folks in my home state: how in the fark did it end up being a choice between this dickhead and Andre Bauer? I mean seriously, as far as leadership is concerned, you would have been better off getting some monkeys from Riverbanks Zoo and letting them run around the State House. Yeah, they might spend all day screaming and flinging shiat at each other but they'd still be better than Sanford and Bauer

Keep working them family values Repubs! Don't let them gays ruin the sanctity of marriage. After all, if you want a job done right, you've got to do it yourself.

Sanford, Vitter, Foley, Haggard, Craig, Allen, Craig, Limbaugh, Oreilly, Swaggart and all others, I only have three words for you.

GIT ER DONE!!!!

Step up everyone else. Show us those family values.

Dammit so much - if you dont wanna be in a faithful relationship, then dont get into one!

Wake up little ones: politicians are philanderers. I'm currently reading "The Irregulars" about Roald Dahl and American politics during WWII. Named cheating politicians during that era:
* Lyndon B. Johnson
* maybe FDR
* Clare Booth Luce (those passages are XXX steamy)
* Louis Mountbatten's wife

It even goes on to speculate that spouses who are mum during the process realize that it is part of achieving higher aspirations (e.g. Lady Bird Johnson).

Remember that Elizabeth Edwards stuck by her husband until the love children started showing up. And then there's Hillary ...

2010-02-03 10:55:04 PM
I think Sanford actually said, "I'm going to go tapping some hiking tail." Not "hiking the Appalachian trail."

2010-02-03 11:05:42 PM
So, he makes it absolutely explicit that he isn't promising not to dip his wick elsewhere. She accepts the deal with that understanding.

Years later, she decides to put her kids through a divorce because their dad did something that she previously agreed was no big deal.

And, of course, that makes him the bad guy, because . . . why, again?

Oh, yeah. Because anything a woman in a relationship wants, the man must do. Because our society actively encourages women to behave like spoiled, selfish children instead of mature adults able to understand compromise and negotiation.

2010-02-03 11:21:01 PM
Omnivorous:
* Clare Booth Luce (those passages are XXX steamy)

well, of course. you have to be steamy if you're catholic and the ambassador to Italy

So yeah, as a SC resident, they didn't impeach him because they know Andre is rather flaming. The same reason he's not a serious contender to replace him this year. Sucks, but that's how SC is.

Oh, and I saw Jenny Sanford at the grocery store a couple weeks ago. Their kids are huge gingers. But don't worry, she's doing fine. I've been by her oceanfront house on the exclusive island.
