1kg = 2.2lb - double it and add 10%. No wonder the USA is going down the tubes.

Listened to the 'After Hours with Heidi & Frank' podcast #3 over the weekend; special guest Ralphie May who said he lost the equivalent of 'one fat guy' or 350 lb; he previously weighed around ~850 lb.

I think people are remarking about the "stone" unit. When are the British going to get with the rest of the world and use "pounds"?

Americans here talking about obesity listen up:

This man is on benefits, the british taxpayers are paying for him to make himself fat and thanks to our national health service, also paying for the surgery caused by his obesity.

You will never have stupidity on this level.

They had to staple his stomach ? how about, oh i don't know.. eating less ?

Was someone force-feeding him ?

Staples sound a bit flimsy in this guy's cases. Some sort of industrial welding would have been more appropriate.

I've never been a fan of surgery to loose weight. Your stomach can still expand, the staples can still come out and this is not encouraging proper diet or exercise -- both of which play a huge part to healthy, long term weight maintenance.

I have a friend of mine who is doing just that. He was over 500 lbs and has lost 80 in just a short few months from proper diet and exercise. When your that big, a change in eating habits will take a lot of it off pretty quickly.

/was over 300 myself

Congrats on the weight loss! I'm just starting out on my de-fattening adventure.

I've cut out soda completely, eat a lot more salads instead of carbs like bread & pasta. I'm trying to control my portions. Eating at home for every meal now. Just the basics. I'm making excuses for not getting much exercise, but I think just getting off my ass and walking would be a big start.

I started on Jan. 1st at 274 lbs and weighed in this morning at 267. So it's slow going, but I guess I'm making progress. Got any advice, beyond the obvious?

How much is that in "tall-boys?" That's the only unit of measure I recognize.

A typical work week is about 20 tall-boys long, it's a two tall-boy drive from my house to the in-laws and my mother in law weighs about 400 tall-boys.

It's universal.

Or 686 lbs. A stone is 14 pounds.

49 stone is 686lbs, he lost 20 stone which is 280lbs. So at one time was 966lbs. or 69 stone.

Manuel Uribe was 90 stone which is 1260lbs.

Get a full nights sleep. This one is very important
Walk a lot (I lose weight I gained over summer because I have to walk so much to get to class)
Figure out how to speed up your metabolism (when I'm at school and running, lifting weights and stuff I have to take in an insane amount of calories to keep my weight... granted I'm sure that will change in a few years, but still).

Stay away from ANY carbonated beverage.
Drink lots of water (but keep your electrolytes in check)

This.

Also, there is a really useful technique called volumetrics (I know that sounds scammy but hear me out). It involves filling up your meals with low-calorie high-moisture foods. This will allow you to feel satiated without a substantial boost in calories.

A good example is adding canned or frozen vegetables to soups, sauces, or on top of meat entrees. Tofu noodles have virtually no calories but can act as a stand-in for pasta. As I'm writing this, I'm eating beans and rice loaded with tomatoes and other water-rich vegetables. I'm full but with way fewer calories than if I had added sausage or beef.

Good for you! As I noted in a fatty thread yesterday, I've lost 4 kilos (almost 9 pounds) in the last three weeks by working out and eating right. That's about a quarter of my goal.

Don't drink ANYTHING with calories - other than the occasional glass of wine or beer. Stick to water, seltzer, unsweetened iced tea. I even cut out coffee, since I don't like it without suger. I realize that might be a stretch for some people.

Cut out sugar and sugar substitutes, and try to eat protein with every meal. Keep nuts and raisins around for snacking.

1-2 pounds a week is actually good progress. It may feel slow, but it's a pace you can keep up with good diet and exercise. That 'biggest loser' type stuff where they have people dropping 10 pounds a week is unhealthy bullshiat, those people are going to destroy their metabolism and I'm surprised they haven't had anyone drop dead on the show.
