A German couple who wanted to homeschool their children have been granted political asylum in the US.

Little good that will do them once Obama puts them in the detention camp.

I wonder if all the fundies who are thrilled about this will feel when a German Muslim family pulls the same stunt.

/Europe to start exporting its fundies to the US like its 1689 all over again!

Yes, and what delightful debate tactics you learned. I mean, who can argue with the conservative insult generator and personal attacks? Those schools really paid off.

It's one thing to want some minimum standards or regulation, but Germany is far too rigid when it comes to homeschooling.

They said that their children were being "educated according to an anti-Christian worldview" in public schools, and that textbooks are filled with obscene language, swear words and blasphemy. "They're more about vampires and witches than about God,"

Where were these textbooks when I was in school?

I wish more people understood what blowback meant. I can't wait to see the day the people we backed get overthrown and Iraq splits into three factional regions, then two as the Sunnis pick a side.

I can't wait because I'll sit back, take a long pull off a beer, and watch history play itself out again. The final chapter of Iraq is yet to be written, and it's going to be a real downer.

It was perhaps the most bullshiat war of all bullshiat wars. We're going to actually lose power and influence in the region, contrary to PNAC military and political projections.

I really want to see how history treats Iraq, it is a cruel biatch.

NewportBarGuy: I really want to see how history treats Iraq, it is a cruel biatch.

It will probably be remembered as worse than Vietnam, for the simple reason that Communism didn't win, meaning that Iraq is going to probably go down as the dumbest and worst managed war of all time. And when history mentions that, it will mention with it the man who had the brilliant idea to go there and his little speech on a carrier.

If you have to pull your kids out of public education because you think the entire curriculum, as agreed upon by (generally) democratic processes, is part of a vast conspiracy to indoctrinate them, doesn't that mean by sheer mathematics alone that your worldview has already lost?

We lost in Vietnam, and it had no bearing whatsoever on the collapse of communism. I know it saddens you that it's starting to appear like we will achieve our objectives in Iraq, but you need to try to come to grips with that fact. 12X more Americans died in Vietnam and a couple million Vietnamese probably, never mind the fact it practically ripped apart our country and seriously damaged our military. Even if Iraq descended into chaos tomorrow and never recovered it could never be as bad as Vietnam. I'm starting to think you are the most delusional person on here.

Hmm ... Nothing about fundie douchebags. No matter where this family goes, those kids won't get the chance to truly appreciate their freedom until they get out of their parents' house, provided they're not hopelessly brainwashed by then.

Parents don't always realize that the 'freedom of religion' part of the Bill of Rights applies to everyone - even their grown children.

Militarily, GWB put the US in a great position and we have bases at critical points all across the most volatile region in the world.

Of course, the left ain't happy until we lose - which I always thought was strange. Don't they know that it is their heads that will be first to the chopping blocks if we go full Muslim?

My other concern is with the morale of our armed forces. This latest sop by Obama to his most vocal supporters is not going well in military circles.

But then again, another barrier out of the way for the luscious left. Still, you'd think they'd realize ...

relcec: it's starting to appear like we will achieve our objectives in Iraq

Are you f*cking serious? We achieved our objectives in Iraq? After moving the goal posts how many times, exactly? Let's see...

4,000 Americans dead, thousands more seriously wounded, tens-of-thousands of dead Iraqis, and NO F*CKING WMD PROGRAM! Nothing! We went there because Iraq was supposed to be an "imminent threat," and it F*CKING WASN'T. We invaded an entire nation and ripped it to pieces for NOTHING.

Unbelievable that you're so retarded and shameless that you would publicly state that we've achieved our objectives in Iraq. We didn't achieve sh*t because our entire reason for invading turned out to be a giant load of bullshiat sold to the world by our own leaders. It is a folly unmatched in American history and our grandchildren will still be living it down 50 years from now.
