I'm not a purist when it comes to Monopoly. I grew up playing a PC version on a BBS, because the calculator made things easier.

Now when it comes to Risk, quit screwing with it, Hasbro. Castle Risk sucked and so does this Reinvention crap.

And what the hell happened to Battleship?

My Monopoly board is a 1940's version with wooden houses and playing pieces. It's amazing it's still intact after all these years. One of the original dice has been replaced and I'm not sure if all the money is still there, but not bad for 3 generations of kids using it.

Holy crap, that thing's awesome. And I never thought I'd say that about a board game.

Somaticasual: //ahh monopoly - the game that virtually never ends if you play it right.

No, if you play it correctly, the game doesn't go on forever. Once a player secures a mid-board monopoly, the game becomes very lopsided very quickly -- which is the entire point. The game only goes on indefinitely if you start playing by house rules where landing on Free Parking gets you a ton of cash.

/Monopoly purist.
//Yes, the game is inherently unfair. Again, that's the point.

Yes, that is the point. Growing up, I never went for Park Place or Boardwalk, as it's risk-reward failed the logic test. When you have everyone pulling cash from house-rules get-rich-quick schemes, the true strategy of the game goes out the window. I got my butt kicked when playing "house rules" crapopoly.

I used to get so pissed when one of my siblings would make a trade giving anyone at the table a monopoly. It's never worth it!

Each game will still take sixteen hours to complete and encourage fistfights and emotional scars, so the flavor and feel of Monopoly will still be there.

So, along with the new board and the digital cash, they've made the game fun to play and games take less than three hours, right?

No?

Carry on, then.

I kind of like the way it looks. Having said that, it's not right. The square board is where it's at and there cannot be electronic funds changing hands. Part of the fun was collecting huge mounds of cash and waving it around in your opponents' faces.

The real point got removed long ago. It was a simulator for redistributing property.

My sister got that new digital monopoly for Christmas. I can't stand it. It takes way longer to use those damn electronic cards than it does to just count out the money by hand.

What I DON'T like, is the digital bank. I like to be able to see my money in Monopoly. fark checking your bank account all the time.

I've never even heard of giving money for Free Parking and we didn't pull cash from the house but whenever I played with more than 3 people there were always one or two people controlling a good portion of the board but then everyone else stubbornly hanging on, making barely enough to stay afloat from their meager properties and very slowly bleeding money. It can take hours to get those people to accept their bankruptsy and they're usually the sort that won't help out one of the winning players. "YOU HAVE EVERYTHING. YOU CAN'T HAVE MY PARK PLACE, IT'S ALL I'VE GOT!" That's when it takes forever.
