Yup, used by every single other organization with an agenda. See: The Bush White House and their stupid rule about funding abortions in foreign counties.

It's a farking travesty that DWB is getting wait-listed for airport slots for a shipment of quacks.

Six tons of supplies is about 1/12th of what a C-17 could have flown in if Travolta hadn't taken a landing slot to get his name in the media.

The headline should read: Travolta prevents 66 tons of supplies from reaching Haiti.

thomps: i think it's probably the right priority, considering how impractical and silly looking it would be to attach wind turbines to bibles.

They're called Preachers.

Travolta brought in 6 tons of supplies and a few Scientology corporate executives...I mean...ministers.

Good on ya John for the supplies.

Talon: What are your thoughts on solar powered bibles?

You know... I know these things exist but there is a nugget of good idea in there.

How about a Bible, like the actual book, with a solar cell attached and the capability of providing power to recharge a flashlight or power a small hot plate or something to cook or boil water...

I wonder if that's even possible...

Then again, if you can have the solar cell, why not just distribute them without the Bible?

Are you saying that there are c-17s circling Haiti waiting to get clearance to land and couldn't because Travolta went there?

Why don't you just face it: Haiti is last week's news. The world has moved on to the next disaster which is Leno back on The Tonight Show.

I would assume it is a crappy attempt at good P.R. and not much more than that.

It doesn't take much, even FSM apastates have done more to help than the wealthy, oil-drenched Muslim countries which barely register on the aid contribution ranks.

nekom: Actually, it's a simple whetstone bridge, it measures the resistance between the two cans attached to wires. At best it's a very crude lie detector of sorts, or maybe something along the lines of one of those `love tester' machines you see in malls. At worst it's absolutely nothing whatsoever. It certainly seems to have no practical use.

A buddy of mine & I got drunk one night and walked into a Scientology "Life Improvement Center" to take a Personality test just for the Lulz. They say my friend down in front of the e-meter, and he learned that if he squeezed really hard, it pinned the needle. The interviewer guy kept on trying to dig with questions, but my buddy kept on giving more and more ridiculous answers until he broke out the old "Do you my friend Jesus Christ?".

They ended the session and kicked us both out.

/cool story bro.

If this were the case, why would they need planes? Couldn't they just teleport there? And why even go down there? Couldn't they just will the area into being rebuilt and even more prosperous than it was before?

It's the same reason christians can't just miracle away the disaster. It's all bullshiat intended to keep weak people in line.

And in Haitian mythology, lo it came to pass that Saint Travolta folded his wings and landed on Haiti's shores. He brought with him the knowledge and the truth. He brought with him great prophets of infinite wisdom. He brought with him this machine that goes 'bing', but instead of going 'bing' it just lights up. Thus the country was saved. Thus the country was enlightened. Thus all suffering ended and that 30ft bull monster was vanquished. As it is written, so shall it be.

What does that have to do with the fact that this is a PR stunt? What Travolta did was a good deed but it could have done without alerting the media that he's going to land at that specific time and he could have kept his presence low key if he really wanted to visit the place that badly.

They've been actively seeking to curry favor in less-favorable locations in order to prepare for the day they get kicked out of the U.S. -- they've already been booted from most nations in Europe, so this is just laying the groundwork for a new headquarters in whatever country will put up with them.

Who gives a shiat why he did it? The point is that the Haitians now have more aid that they didn't have before. Every little bit of help counts. Or do you deny that?

The food and water is a nice gesture. They are to be commended for it.

However, as mentioned earlier in the thread, they're also bringing their own brand of faith-healing to Haiti. This is not good, since they're not too far off from Benny Hinn in their medical knowledge.
