"I desire the Poles carnally."

- President Jimmy Carter's mistranslation in a 1977 speech in Poland

Of course they don't have electricity, they are too tired to get it working: They are monopoles.

2010-01-25 09:47:55 AM
I'll bet they are relieved, at least they won't have to install any light bulbs for a bit.

Was anybody else expecting an 18,000 page slideshow of useless cylinders?

This is when good insulation is important. In other words, I like the caulk.

Do you prefer the shocker?

Maybe they should meditate on the problem a little before trying to fix it. OHM...OHM...

2010-01-25 10:24:12 AM
Perhaps they should notify Duke University. The basketball team there has a certified Polish brain trust...

Looks like they'll be "metering out" some alternative heating methods for a while. One might even say that they could be standing in fuel lines because the lines are no longer standing.

Maybe they could ask their Bosnian Serb neighbors for a few extra Tesla's worth of help.

/Bzzzzz off!

Why should I care? In terms of distance, Poland is very Farad remote.

Whatever happened to polack jokes?
Has something replaced them?

I don't have the capacitance for this this early in the morning.

How many Polacks does it take to change a light bulb?

Dick jokes, Leno jokes, Obama/Bush/other political jokes... the list goes on and on. Now if you want to continue with the purely racist angle (Anglo?), a good anti-Semitical "joke" is always a classic.

Personally, I'm glad the heyday of the old 'viral "just between us" racist joke crap' from the late 70s and early 80s is over. Well, either that, or I just learned how to get rid of the morons who ever thought that perpetuating stereotypes and race hate was cool.

Hey, I'm in Pioland and I'm getting a kick out these replies. Seriously, it is farking cold here. Minus twenty C or so. My only recourse is my sweet Polish GF, who like me just wants to get into bed and snuggle. She's kind of crazy but the snuggling is so good, and she is so nice to me, I don't mind.

How long have you been with your Polish girlfriend? In my experience, the longer you're with them, the crazier they get.

/seriously dude, watch out.

He's close to right. It isn't that they go crazy, it just comes out over time. But he is dead right about watching yourself. On the upside, she isn't Ukranian. Crazy as hell from the get go and worth it for a good while.

Just as long as we don't forget them.

There's clearly some potential for electricity related puns.

She was exposed to enough Radium that she didn't need a lightbulb.

No power? Have they tried reversing the Poles?

2010-01-25 11:56:32 AM
The reason poles go crazy as they age is that they slowly move from right to left. Eventually they end up in the left half plane and stability just goes to hell.

Bad news: some folks are without electricity.
Good news: Army Group North is bogged down and freezing.

I hope the telephone Poles were operating so that they could call for help!

For what its worth, the "stupid Pollack" jokes were literally Communist propaganda first popular immediately after WW2, as a justification for Soviet "influence" in Poland. Pollack jokes also served to allieviate the Allied guilt at abandoning Poland to the Soviets, despite the fact that Britain entered WW2 to defend Poland. But please, bring back the Pollack jokes!

Ever heard of Alexander Graham Polanski?

He was the first telephone pole.
