TheUltimateFunctor: NFL needs to change the OT rules. Vikings deserved the win more, IMHO. This along with the Green Bay game were ruined by crappy overtimes, and both games I felt the worse team won.

I can't root for the Saints after that. Go COLTS! I'd like to see Manning add some more SB's to his resume to end these silly Brady > Manning arguments.

Steelers fan here. NFL kind of blows, though. NHL is the league to watch.

The Vikings had 5 turnovers. A team with -4 in turnovers does not "deserve the win more".

And also, the Packers had the ball first. It was their offense that lost it for them with a turnover.

Sorry, the NFL OT is fine how it is. Sudden death after 60 minutes of playing is how the game should end. Maybe if you want to make it first to 6, fine, but any other changes would be stupid. College OT is a joke.

dohrk: With all the injuries making people skip it, and no Saints or Colts, it is a week of nothing.

so injured players are skipping it, as are the players playing in the superbowl. how is it different from every other year?

People are acting like this awesome game is being ruined by moving it to the week before the superbowl. The probowl always stinks, a bunch of players always skip it.

The Jets should be favored.

thejoyofpi: My point was not that statistics should win the game. It was that the overtime system is flawed. I was using the statistics as a reasoning for why I felt the worse team won.

Obscure Login: I do think that a team that turns the ball over that much and STILL keeps the game tied deserves to win more. I also think OT should just be another full quarter or some constant chunk of time added on so that the OT is played exactly like the actual regulation game - you think this a stupid change?

I assume you meant the Vikes had the ball first. Their last) TO was while driving with less than a minute remaining in the 4th. The Saints won the toss, received, and won.

Fox 8 just showed the inside of Tropical Isle- my roommate is bartending and he looked THRILLED. Not only about the Saints- 10-1 he makes three months' rent tonight.

Also, they're not even bothering to bleep out people yelling about how f*cking awesome this is.

TheUltimateFunctor: I also think OT should just be another full quarter or some constant chunk of time added on so that the OT is played exactly like the actual regulation game

this is why the "first to 6"(or i'd say, first to 4 or maybe even lead by 4 at any point or have the lead at the end of the OT qtr) rule works nicely. it forces teams to strategize in OT exactly the same as they would in regulation. that is to say, your primary goal is to score a touchdown, and SETTLE for a FG. instead of knowing that once you get inside the 25, the game is essentially over.

Why not just have the game start out in sudden death, that way whatever team lucks in to getting to field goal range can win, and the Superbowl can suck without having to wait so long?

I am a Vikings fan, and quite bitter, but not even for the loss. This whole time, I just wanted it to be a fair, straightforward game, and while the Vikes did suck it up quite a bit, you can't say those last calls from the refs were legit.

Congratulations to the Saints, y'all finally got that monkey off of your backs. A few short years ago there was talk of moving the team, and now they are in the Super Bowl. Aints no more. Long suffering yet insanely loyal, no fan base ever deserved it more.

I wish I could take the day off tomorrow but... no...

Audit busy season is not not fun fun.

My fans can find me @ One Canal Place between the hours of... oh... 8 am Monday morning and 10 pm Friday night, with the occasional trip home for powersleeping.

OK, let's go with your theory and assume that those calls were not legitimate. If the Vikes were really that much better, then why weren't they ahead by enough to where a few crappy calls would've made the difference in the game?

This is from a Cowboys fan who said the exact same thing last week: The better team won.

Regardless of the officiating, the play that really turned the game around was the 12 men on the field call, which you can't blame anybody but the Vikings about. If they don't do that, then they just run the ball trying to squeak out a few more yards for the field goal to end the game in regulation, rather than the passing play that resulted in the interception...

OK I was farking wasted from about the third quarter of game one onwards, can someone tell me how "the refs gave the Saints the game"?

That's the thing, they were pretty even. Throw in a bunch of fumbles, and the vikings should have easily lost right there, but they didn't. I don't care if a better team beats them, as long as they do it fair and square. I can almost guarantee had those same plays been done by the vikes, they would have ruled against them. And just for posterity, i'll thrown in that it is New Orleans, not exactly the most saint-like place.
