I'll stick with my collection of discarded football and black spray painted lacrosse equipment thankyouverymuch. If things get too desperate I could see shivving and gutting an Oakland Raider fan for their pelt and Gwaresque accessories. I mean in a world gone mad, who would have time for a proper fitting, who would even ring it up?

I'm as couture-crazy as the next gal but post-apocalypse you gotta go with off the rack.

I plan on smearing myself with mud and moss, and making a loincloth out of reeds, pinecones, and bark.

If it doesn't involve shoulder spikes and knee braces, I'm not interested.

Leather, yards and yards of leather.

I've actually got several items of body armor (leftovers from my SCA days). I'd need a new set of plate, but i've got a helm, gauntlets and shield.

I don't think the reviewer was too impressed.

I would like to know more of this 'latex corset' armor of which you speak. I was going to go with a basic brigantine set myself. Or barring that, just scavange some body armor from the nearby national guard armory.

Right.

Christ, you were in the SCA, too? I was when I was a kid (my parents dragged me into it). Makes Renn faire enthusiasts look well-adjusted.

I think I still have a cloak and a dagger somewhere in my closet. Used to have a tunic and a huge ugly belt, too.

Yes, but body armor is so... pre-apocalypse. I want to be able to move and jump and shoot without "the Girls" getting in the way.

I forgot to add motorcycle boots to the outfit didn't I? For shame!

we were an Atlantean household (long story, dont' ask). I think most everyone kind of grew out of it though. The local shire is still around, but I really have lost touch with that sub-culture over the past couple years.

Yeah, my parents quit halfway into my teens when they realized that they were the only non-alcoholics in the shire.

And they let you be Atlantean? The farking heralds threw a shiatfit when I tried to have an atypical NAME. For "creative anachronists," the Scadians I've met have been ridiculously anal retentive when it comes to accuracy.

For a book written in 1982 it's surprisingly on point. compare the recent election maps with the 'nine countries' map(s). I think he got it mostly right.

Every time a hearald complained, we stuffed him into armor and put him in the bear pit for fighter practice. the rest we just bribed.

I always figured the NW would definitely split off. If you look at the pipeline grids, we are pretty isolated as it is and surrounded by mountains. We get all our oil from Alaska. And pretty much make all our own energy and grow our own food, too.

All we need to do is defend the mountain passes from the eastern and southern zombies hoards.

Garreau's comments about energy and land use policy was pretty insightful (especially for the time) - he pointed out that letting D.C. set policy for a region that most people in D.C. have never even seen was far more damaging than allowing locals to figure it out for themselves.
