30 days? That's ridiculous. I'm betting there's a grievance filed.

Lumox: Or they could just not have Facebook

It doesn't say anything about the teacher having a Facebook page, just that the person who posted the photo did.

It doesn't say anywhere that she has a Facebook account. Either way, it wouldn't have changed anything.

Well thank God she didn't have any aspirin in her desk or they would have fired her.

We all know that male strippers are the gateway to relations with 14 year old students.

If she'd been the stripper and male she could be a US senator.

I wonder if they'd have cared if it was a male teacher at a party with a female stripper.

How refreshing... finally a teacher makes the news for not sleeping with a student.

Oh, but I'd say she still got farked.

This is one of many reasons I am SO glad to be out of primary and secondary teaching. You've got to really screw up to have issues as a college instructor!

It might be time for teachers being punished for stupid crap like this to reveal the real life antics of parents and everyone on the school board. I'm certain that none of them would want their activities revealed to the public, activities such as picking up an antibiotic prescription or wearing a bikini at the beach or having wine with dinner in a public place.

Get out of my head.

so is the moral of the story is never allow yourself to be photographed?

isn't that what the school board is hinting at?

I don't think it would matter in this situation.

This is similar to the girl down here forced to resign over her vacation photos (which showed her in a pub with a Guinness).

As part of the teaching contract we sign with the Korean ministry of education, English teachers are supposed to conduct themselves in a way that will not diminish the reputation of SMOE (Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education) outside of school hours.

So yeah, we can get fired for getting photoed partying with a bunch of scantily dressesd Russian hookers.

Not that we do, of course.

Wow. Are we trying to become like Britain?

As someone in school to be a teacher, I am getting a kick out of these replies.

I hope I don't get in trouble for going to any rock concerts or anything once I finally get my license.

That is utterly rediculous - biatch and moan all you want about teachers unions but here is one case where (after she ends up getting paid for those 30 days) she and a lot of other teachers will be glad they have one.

2010-01-22 11:52:49 AM
So ... she signed her name to some kind of "Code of Conduct" document prohibiting her from ... uhh ... lewd and lascivious conduct? Because otherwise the school just exposed themselves to an open-and-shut lawsuit here.

As someone has pointed out, we just elected a federal senator who stripped for a national magazine.

This ain't Korea.

There could be a song too - to tell all about it after the fact. We could call it, say, Harper Valley PTA!

So, not only are teachers at public schools disturbingly underpaid, but they also must have absolutely no social interactions of any kind.

ne2d: Education is the most dysfunctional business sector in this country.

That's because government made it mandatory; no need to compete (on quality or price) for business when nobody can opt out. Health care insurance has been moving toward this market structure too, but we have stopped it for now, mainly because we don't want our health care to go teh way of our public schools. We can reverse the trend in health if we keep up the pressure. Then maybe we can clean up education next. It's a great time to be American.

I work in a school and you wouldn't believe the amount of restrictions we have. We had someone "resign" after some facebook pics came out.

Since we are in charge of the students we are held at a much higher standard than normal people. Especially since we are always getting sued for the most insane crap.

Just for being a Farker, you're going to be fired soon. Sorry for your loss, but if it makes you feel any better, there are plenty of people here who got their GED in law to help you fight your case.

You know, when my friend got married and deleted her facebook account and took over her husband's instead, I thought she was absolute batshiat insane.

Until I talked to her a few weeks later and found out it had nothing to do with the wedding and everything to do with her getting her first job as a high school teacher. She deleted her account entirely and since her husband didn't use his at all, she took it over, changed the name to a pseudonym and made it unsearchable as well.

Teachers apparently have every reason to be paranoid.

A family relation of mine is a teacher and she refuses to friend anyone outside of her professional relationships for this exact same fear - content of her having a "life" and people on the outside seeing it.

Facebook's tagging and privacy features are not very secure and don't allow you to lock down stuff as much as you'd want to.

Incidentally, A friend of mine posted a picture of another friend from a Halloween party in college and tagged it. She was dressed as Britney from the "Oops" video and holding a red solo cup. He didn't think it would be a problem because his pictures and his profile are private.

Unfortunately, Facebook hiccupped and everyone who was friends with the pictured friend could access the picture on the private profile, leaving the pictured friend VERY upset.

Because of that, I do not tag pictures at all, and I ask permission to post stuff if there's even a hint of something people could get upset about.

2010-01-22 11:58:28 AM
To be fair, when I was a kid, I didn't think teachers had lives outside of school.

I thought they were kept on school grounds at night, in giant freezers or something.

2010-01-22 11:58:37 AM
One of my ex girlfriends is a teacher and she never posts pictures, never goes on facebook, etc. She almost always uses nicknames online.

Honestly, I thought she was being paranoid. I guess I owe her an apology.

2010-01-22 11:58:53 AM
Wait I have a plan, set up a meeting with the counsel. Have a stripper dressed up like a lawyer. Have him strip right there and take lots of pictures of them. Game over.

2010-01-22 11:59:21 AM
Stupid

That is all

2010-01-22 12:00:13 PM
1. Find a teacher you hate.
2. Get a friend who doesn't go to that school so he will be unrecognized.
3. Get friend to sneak up and pose next to teacher while dressed in revealing clothing (or naked).
4. Take picture.
5. Post picture.
6. Profit.

...I'm guessing that would work, too?

2010-01-22 12:00:34 PM
Teachers get shiat on by parents and administrators far too much. This kind of thing is ridiculous.

I wouldn't want my photo taken at the stripper part of a bachelor/bachelorette party, but that's for reasons other than thinking that I would get suspended from my job.

The union exists to help teachers in ridiculous situations like this. I hope that a grievance is filed and delivered by way of hot poker up the ass of the person who decided this was an appropriate course of action.

Goal: Hire better teachers for our children.

Plan: Torture teachers with ridiculous standards until all the teachers with other options quit or are fired.

Result: Is our children learnin' ?

2010-01-22 12:04:29 PM
Total bullshart. I am a teacher, and I do completely edit my facebook taggings, etc. But if I missed it, c'mon. This isn't something I posted. And a stripper? C'mon.

I bet this would have gone differently if it was a dude. And I'm a dude saying it.

Genevieve Marie: Teachers apparently have every reason to be paranoid.

This, this, this. Parents have so much control over the education situation that a complaint or two will lead to a snowball situation.

Kids are getting much more saavy with the google-fu and searching.
