The-Brain: OMG someone said ass

Quick! Suspend them and charge them $135!

2010-01-20 12:33:52 PM
Why did they compile with such an obvious error?

2010-01-20 12:35:46 PM
The C and L folks got away with it? That's hardly fair.

2010-01-20 12:41:59 PM
I think we need to see the photos in question before we can judge.

2010-01-20 12:48:41 PM
So, saying ass is crass, and it sounds like the class of 2010 managed to amass a pretty fair amount of outrage.

Why did the three that didn't move get punished? In what world does that make sense?

2010-01-20 12:56:41 PM
Kids being kids. Nothing to see here.

2010-01-20 12:59:59 PM
Senior Austin Knight says "C and L ran off" and it's not the fault of the other three students, who also were fined $135.

Fined? I hope none of them (or their parents) pay that fine without some sort of due process involved.

GAT_00: Why did the three that didn't move get punished? In what world does that make sense?

Texas, apparently. Here's a more informative, and somewhat more amusing, article. (new window)

2010-01-20 01:28:11 PM
This article (new window)(with video goodness) states that "The fines will help pay for retouching and reprinting the panoramic for all 636 seniors." So...no one proofed the photo before it was printed and distributed? Whose fault is that?

But in a later informal shot, students representing "C" and "L" moved from the front row, leaving behind a different three-letter word.

*GASP!*

The word is so horrific the newspaper can't even print it. Nevermind that it is said all the time on "The Simpsons", a cartoon family show.

EvilEgg: The C and L folks got away with it? That's hardly fair.

If they are going to fine the A,S,S kids they should also fine the C and L kids. And that said, unless they have proof of intent, the school has a really lousy case. The C and L kids could argue they thought picture taking was done and, or, they wanted to be with their friends and forgot about the letters while the A,S,S kids can argue that they didn't realize the C and L kids had left.

And, after the reading the second article that suggests the C and L kids ducked, I'd fight the school on this if I were the A,S,S kids parents.

I'm all for the suspension and the fine. Even if C and L had stayed in the frame, those three kids were still wearing shirts that collectively spelled ASS. Not only that, I have it on very good authority that underneath their ASS t-shirts, they were naked.

As jaybirds.

How the school could allow something like that to go in their yearbook is totally beyond me.

2010-01-20 01:38:30 PM
The Letter People wouldn't have done this. They would've stood tall and sung their songs like Mr. B "beautiful blue buttons"....

Suspensions!
The wonderful, magical, easy solution to all small-dicked school administrator's problems!

Two points...

First, what the hell gives the school the right to "fine" anyone? Detention, suspension, making life (more) of a living hell, yes. But fines? No. Judiciary powers, not yours.

And second, why did he punish the three instead of the two? Not their fault that the C and L decided to act like children snickering over a dirty word. I could even understand punishing all five if he had some reason to think they conspired to ruin the photo shoot, but just the three who happened to wear the "wrong" letters, not so cool.

The money will help pay the cost of retouching the photo.

In what universe does it cost $270+ to photoshop a picture?

Just give your average 10 year old the picture, the request, $25 and 1 hour, and viola! Problem solved.

Wait, since when do schools have the authority to levy fines without some sort of due process? Oh wait, this is Texas, never mind.

On another note, I think it's time to start throwing public school administrators screaming from airborne helicopters

Whew, I though this was going to be an article about Roman numerals.

Schools hate things like this.

We almost got into trouble during graduation for doing the wave and bouncing beach balls around the graduating class during the handing out of diplomas. The beach balls were my idea, and they started on my name.

But hey, fark the administration and the people watching who wanted gravitas. That was OUR day, and we claimed it as such.

They're students. They have about the same amount of rights as the average chihuahua.

I hope the school board has a change of heart and gets a little lube over this one. . .

Am I the only one that thinks "Sure go ahead and do it, and yes I do think it's funny, but if you're going to do it you're going to have to deal with the consequences"

If not for the consequences it wouldn't be as funny.

2010-01-20 01:50:18 PM
Seriously...school administrators need to grow the fark up.

2010-01-20 01:51:13 PM
Seriously, what's up with people referring to any behavior/idea they don't agree with as "ignorant"? It's become equivalent in meaning to "I am butthurt and its your fault!"
