Sleeping Monkey: Sex is bad. Violence is good. Got it.

There's always some high-schooler (either actually or simply mentally) who thinks this is the attitude.

Sex isn't bad- it's a part of every normal adult's life in some way or another. When children are sexualized at an improper time or in an improper manner, however, this leads to a host of mental illnesses and generally destroys their life.

Initiating violence, on the other hand, is nice a simple and against the law.

Ergo, fantasy violence is simply that, and it's easy to say that in real life "that would be wrong, don't do it. But sex is more complicated than that, and sexual imagery tends to play on parts of a child's psyche that are more complex to sort out.

I know that this isn't a simple enough explanation for people like you who just can't be entertained by anything but the flapping exposed naughty bits of someone with no look of cognition behind their eyes to distract you towards their humanity, so it's just easier to tell you to STFU and go to your room.

Actually, when he was answering questions about this site in several long posts last year (and no, I don't have the links), Drew said that the filters are more for amusement purposes than anything else. The secondary purpose is to prevent drawing the ire of some of the more easily offended types out there, mainly the employers of Farkers. Makes sense to me ;)

Fair enough, I think most profanity is so widespread it really has lost a lot of its offensiveness. I wouldn't be surprised if in ten years f*ck isn't even considered offensive. Particularly for its diversity. I've heard the dean of my law school say it in class like it was nothing. The times they are a changin'.

There's a difference between properly educating kids about the nature and consequences of sex and characterizing it as some horrible sin and completely sheltering them from it, which is what we're doing.

Exactly. I'm beginning to think that some people assume that children never grow up. I mean, you can shelter a kid for his entire childhood, but you're either going to end up with one farked up person, or someone that just ended up not hearing bad words 'til way after everyone else.

We've gotten soft over the years, we mostly marry after 20 yrs old, that wasn't always the case. It's prevalent in the US especially, I mean, if it is such a negative act to have a child see some titties on TV, why hasn't the UK fallen apart?

No_One_Special: Sex isn't bad- it's a part of every normal adult's life in some way or another. When children are sexualized at an improper time or in an improper manner, however, this leads to a host of mental illnesses and generally destroys their life.

Please define what "sexualized" means in this context.

After that, please cite me a study wherein a child is exposed to sexual media or sexual topics and is rationally educated about them, that then compares their mental health outcome when compared to a child who is exposed to such and scolded or scared into thinking those things are bad.

Oh right, you can't, because you're talking out your ass.

What is an "improper time"? No one knows, because our society goes farking out of their mind if someone in high school buys a Playboy.

I'll save you the trouble of typing out your rebuttal: No, its not the same as child pornography or child molestation. Hell, there's a case to me made that children are just as traumatized by the criminal justice system "saving" them from non-violent molesters as victims as they are when/after they are molested. Am I endorsing adults diddling children? No.

HOWEVER...

Children are naturally curious about their bodies and what their parts are for. It's totally possible to explain these things to them in a reasonable way. Children didn't start playing doctor in the 1970's, and exploration that is *educated* is far more likely to be healthy than the alternative: 13 year olds who end up alone together and one gets pregnant.

tl;dr version: You're talking out of your ass, do the world a favor and shut up.

FTA: "In 2004, the FCC adopted a policy that profanity referring to sex or excrement is always indecent."

Well then, it would seem obvious that the FCC's own policy must contain references to sex and excrement. Right?

What if (God forbid) a child should read this policy?
