He also declined the reward the Lettieri family offered him, saying that as an observant Muslim he could not accept it.

Wow, class act, though I wonder what about being Muslim bars someone from accepting a reward?

How many do you really need? All 72? I think honestly you could get by on 5 or 10.

Good for him. I think I'm a pretty good guy, but there'd be a temptation for me to say, "Hey, here's your $20k you left in the back seat!"

I didn't know that fear of the mafia was a Muslim observance...

Pat Robertson would probably say he was only acting like that because of the good Christian example of his fares.

I prefer to give the benefit of the doubt to people who drive you at breakneck speeds through NYC traffic.

I've never been, but even photos of traffic in NYC make me want to curl into a fetal position. And I've heard many stories about NYC cabbies' impressive/insane driving skillz.

No, no, he's right. It would be like dealing with the world's largest class of "slow" students.

"All right, everyone. Open your textbooks to page one. 'The Penis - Probably your Efforts Should be Focused Here'".

The only possible explanation for this is that he wants to convert to Christianity. Then he can be a sekrit muslin.

Must be a Mohammad thing. A couple of weeks ago I was sitting in court and my cell phone started vibrating. I was pissed off because I was sitting waiting for my partner to come take over so I could run off to another case, and when I saw her number on the phone I assumed it was her calling to tell me she was running late. I answered, and instead got, "Hi, this Mohammad, I'm a cab driver and this lady just left this phone in my cab. She looked like she was really in a hurry." He brought the phone back to our office that afternoon.

If you forget something in cab, make sure the driver is named Mohammad.

Pfft. Give me 2 dirty girls. One can be Kate Mara the other I don't know Denise Millani? And Gatorade, lots of Gatorade, and a unlimited pizza deliverys from a place that's awesome and close which also does grinders.

Good for him. I like to think that the vast majority of Muslims are like this, and not the typical blow everyone up who isnt like us bit, IE the extremeist.

In other words, he's not the Pat Robertson of Islam.

Part of me says "Awesome, good for him" but part of me thinks that announcing that it is because he is Muslim kind of cheapens it a bit.

I mean, l have found wallets whith a few hundred dollars in them, and hunted down the person from their ID and returned it with the money - but I didn't say "I did this because I was Mormon" and plug my religion at the same time - that just would have seemed cheap to me.

But then again, maybe someone pressed him for a reason. I didnt bother to RTFA

I recently left a $400 camera in the back of a Chicago cab.
The driver was a smelly polock so I guess I can kiss that goodbye.

are you kidding me? If it were a Christian who'd returned the money it would have been the first thing we heard coming out of their righteous mouth.
Fortunately, Christians don't return cash.

Whatever you do, never lose anything in a taxi driven by someone with an Italian name in Italy. Crooks, all of them.

It's funny. Everyone decides it's cool to believe this guy did this because he was Muslim, but when the hijackers spouted Allahu Akbar it must've not been because of religion.

That's a very typical metonym. You probably use lots of them yourself; metonymy only seems weird when you come across one that you don't normally see, as in this case of British English.

See, what I need to know first is, do they stay virgins? Or are they just the Mary kind of "virgins," without sin or something? And can you actually have sex in heaven? Maybe I'm thinking about this way too hard, but it's thoughts like this that make me think it wouldn't be worth dealing with 72 perpetually inexperienced, awkward girls for eternity.....

Now if it were 72 sluts that you can fark forever and never get tired of it or some shiat, then that's a different story, but I doubt it...

Last week, I was drunk and offered my cabbie a $10 tip for a $7 ride. He insisted "no no no no no no" so he didn't get the tip.

That guy was from Haiti - you should have taken the cash, sucker!

2010-01-13 09:17:59 PM
So he's saying that if he wasn't observant, he would be a thief? That the only thing preventing him from being a dishonest crook is his fear of divine retribution? The great security camera in the sky?

Be a good person because it's the right thing to do, not because you've been ordered to. Yeesh.

This.

I mean, about the only thing virgins have going for them is that they're less likely to have STDs. And STDs don't matter in heaven. The dirtier and wilder the sluts the better. If I'm dead already, what can I possibly catch?

Maybe I just don't get the whole virgin thing. Been there and don't want to go there again.

Does saying "I did it because I was raised to be honest" cheapen good parenting skills?

There are a number of hadith frowning upon directly profiting from someone else's misfortune. Proper wealth and blessings are seen as the result of one's own work in submission and dedication to God.

Forget the NYC or Muslim aspect, I think it's a wonderful story that ANY cabbie would return that money. I'm kidding, and my cousin (who is an very honest person) once worked as a cabbie. But dealing with cabbies from various cities hasn't exactly given me hope for their honesty as a whole.

Interesting. Even if he won't accept a cash award, he at least deserves a nice steak dinner or a gift in the mail.

"With or without religion, good people will do good things and bad people will do bad things. But for a good person to do a bad thing, that takes religion." - some guy can't remember

Yeah. The whole "I'm doing the right thing because I'm afraid of divine retribution" meme scares me a bit. Like, if that's really the only thing holding you back from doing bad things, what'll happen if you lose faith, or if your faith turns into something that CAN rationalise away doing bad things (ie the brand of Islam adopted by Islamist terrorists).

Also: Stopped clock. Right twice a day. That sort of thing.

That's the reasoning behind segregating the sexes and the chador. Because men would rape every woman they could get their meathooks on if you didn't.
