My days off are essentially the same as my days on. Only I don't get paid.

/Ya, I enjoy my job more than you enjoy yours.

The unemployed are ecstatic!!!

As an unemployed person I'm getting a kick out of this study.

And that's why hoboes are the happiest people you'll ever meet. A bottle of Thunderbird, a can of beans, then being whisked away by rail to another part of the country. Yessir, the life of a hobo is a life of joy.

I prefer to be employed to being unemployed, having been both; that said, I prefer being employed and not working. Usually when I've been unemployed I've also been cataclysmically depressed, which tends to leach some of the pleasure out of not working.

I actually love what I do, and almost enjoy my days AT work more then off at times. Guess I am in the vast minority.

I'm happiest working on a buzz. Just being me.

There is really no reason to work 40 hours a week or for so many weeks a year. The quality of life would vastly improve if the common work week went down to say 35 or so and workers were given several consecutive weeks of vacation a year. Not like 'you can have two weeks of vacation after working for us for five years, but you can't use them on these days or back to back'. The work culture of America has to change. When that changes a lot of other things will change as well.

I knew a writer who used to say, "It's terrible to write. It's great to have written."

That's kind of how I feel about work. I like doing my job, but I like having done my job even better.

I like my job I hate most of the management. If they threw me in an office with a door and let me blast music all day I'd love my job and never complain about it, even my ever-shrinking paycheck.

I work in a call center... I'm a glorified switchboard operator that controls call volume between 4 call centers... I get paid less than people taking the phone calls once you factor in commission, and I have 7 bosses. Even if I could wear my headphones to block everyone out, I'd be more happy. The management actually in the call center is fine, everything above that, has no idea what they're doing.

If you voluntarily work in a call center, you deserve all the suffering you get, and should be killed as often as possible.

No man, I love my work. I only work six months a year with compiling whatever reason leave and sick leave for the time I do work. I then rest on the gobs of money I've made for the next six months. I love not slaving away at a 40 hour job all year around. I am as happy as everyone else could be.

But yeah, I've had really sucky jobs. During college I worked at a Taco Bell with the drive through window on the wrong side of the street so the window didn't work. I spent a deep south summer running in and outside to hand drivers their food and got screamed at when I took more than two minutes per car. Thats enough to make anyone want to slit their wrist.

I'll keep that in mind next time I meet someone unemployed living in their mom's basement.

I'm in the minority, too. I do something I like as a profession and I'm not stuck in some goddamn office.

There is way too much stress in being unemployed. Off days are pretty boring. I end up drinking, too much.

The problem with call centers is not the employees, it's the customers. If people weren't such complete assholes to anybody in customer service, the people who are good at the job and like it would stay.

I left my customer service position for a number of reasons, not least of which is dealing with self-absorbed assholes who fly off the handle whenever they find a problem to biatch about. I'm talking about YOU, Mr. "I have an error on my bill and now you're satan to me because you answered the phone".

It's a mutual thing though. I just had a very unpleasant interaction with a bank that I transferred all my funds from, and closed my account with (or so I thought...) two years ago. I just got an email from them notifying me that due to accumulated fees, the money that they did not transfer when they failed to close my account had been used up, and I now owed them money. It took me over an hour to get past the collections dept, and during that time they flat out lied to me several times, and made shiat up out of thin air more than once. The final straw was when one lady kept talking over me every time I asked to speak to a supervisor. Once I got to a higher echelon and moved over to email they have been much more professional and cooperative.

But the weekend effect isn't the same for those who regularly work weekends and have days off during the week.

I used to have a job like that. It blows to be sitting around on a Tuesday while all your friends are working.

Sounds like someone has a case of the Mondays.

At any rate, there are far more important things in life than jobs. Like having a life for one, family and friends for another.

I'm usually not very happy on my days off because I'm usually hungover. I sleep a lot though.

My theory is that most people hate their jobs because deep down, their jobs don't matter. Sitting in a cubicle is not purposeful work.

I say this and I am not above it, I too have a job that could end tomorrow and the world might be better off.

2010-01-13 09:40:19 AM
Funny thing about weekends when you're unemployed, they don't mean quite so much to you.
