Hmmm...It baffles me how the Taliban can recruit so easy over there when all we do is occupy their country, beat, bomb, kill, and incarcerate occasionally innocent civilians. I just don't get it.

These guys are better men than me. If I was falsely accused and thrown in a maximum security prison for a couple years by a foreign occupying army... I'd be slightly more bitter.

2010-01-12 09:56:28 AM
With comments like...

"The news would always try to make Guantanamo into this great place"

and...

"You know here I was basically just putting innocent people in cages"

...it's easy to conclude that this guy is disconnected from reality and has extremist views.

2010-01-12 09:56:36 AM
For some reason I am slightly emotional after reading that article. How dare someone try and put a human face on this and actually break it down.

BTW....most paki and afghan guys I know have the best weed hook ups. Go down to your dev department. If you have a paki engineer or programmer...chances are he is the biggest stoner in the world. And a virgin.

Good people folks, don't demonize all of them.

This! Though I do care about being able to pull up a map in the middle of nowhere. The ones where the maps are pulled remotely and there aren't local worry me. WTF are you thinking, if I NEED a map, its likely I won't have 3G and visa versa.

The fact that a guy who many people would simply classify as "some dumb redneck" can apologize like that is truly a testament to the blind stupidity of politicians and their continued effort to polarize and racialize our nation.

LOL! The amount of abject ignorance in this thread about the actual conditions and behaviors in Gitmo is just unbelievable. I bet most posters also still believe in the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus! And Jeeeesus, of course.

If the MSM served up a bowl of steaming dick most of you would be slavering over it.

No innocent people were sent to Gitmo, only confirmed members of al qaeda or other terrorist organizations got that far.

I think it would depend how long I was in there. I'm sure I'd be furiously angry for quite a while, but after a certain point, I think I'd just want to get out and try to live what was left of my life.

He has to be trolling - it's like saying no innocent man has ever been fasely convicted in the US.

Nanan: No innocent people were sent to Gitmo, only confirmed members of al qaeda or other terrorist organizations got that far.

Clearly not true.

The problem with a lot of these detainees is that they weren't "captured on the battelfield" as is often said. A lot of them were turned over by Northern Alliance or allied Pashtun forces. Which means they could be have been Taliban or Al Qaeda, or they could have been someone that was foreign (and nabbed for a reward), or they could have been old tribal enemies, etc.

I'm sure plenty of the people at Gitmo and the other detention facilities were fighting with Taliban or Al Qaeda forces, but a lot of innocent people got caught up in that as well.

/I'm sure you were trolling anyway

I know, right?

I completely agree with your insightful comment.

You see, I work for Guantanamo Bay.

So I'm really getting a kick out of these replies.

Some of you are very good at making it sound like you know what cockmeat sandwiches taste like.

Don't try to make yourself sound like you know what you're talking about when you don't.

No it's not. It's people commenting on an article. If someone actually gathers information from here then they could do it from anywhere, or just make their own crap up. Again it's not news. It's Fark.

Why would they put the word terrorists in quotation marks? I get that perhaps they were not all terrorists, hence the inclusion of the word suspected.
