The beauty of most weapons relying on springs/tension is you can fabricate one with any decent home workshop, particularly if you have a few metalworking tools. Hell, a decent drill press, grinder and possibly a forge for heat-treatment, and you could likely work up a few submachineguns. Rifling? For ranges less than 50 feet, the old redcoats fighting Boney did just fine without it.

I have 2 thoughts on this:

First, as a society we would rather pay to incarcerate people than to treat them.

Second, the number of people who are mentally ill who do serious crimes is probably such a small percentage of overall crime that it may not actually pay to treat them up front.

/Of course, there is that 'whatever you did for the least of my brothers' quote out of the bible, but fortunately most Americans have no problem with cherry picking their religious beliefs and practices.

the penitent man trap...there is a second blade that comes out of nowhere that would slice even the penitent man in half...but indy knows that they genuflected by quickly rolling away after kneeling during the early years of the church? must have really been a more active membership back in the day
