Since no one got hurt I can laugh at this and man did I laugh. That dog had me giggling and that bearded hippie had me rolling.

I like how she just shambles towards the door, coffee in hand. And the krap is dust from the ceiling tiles falling in front of the camera.

/But where'd the dog go? Nobody went to get the dog?
//Pretty cool that the newspaper lets them keep a dog in the office.

The camera looked too hard to the right and got floaters.

So the dog did get a head start. Thought that was a myth.

Perhaps the gal at the end was waiting for her coffee to finish brewing.

I thought animals were supposed to sense these things a few minutes in advance. It appears the dog got a few seconds at best. Or maybe he sensed it, calculated the severity and decided he would be perfectly safe. And then of course he still shiat his pants when it actually happened.

My roommate's two cats NEVER warn us about earthquakes. I think they're just inconsiderate.

Looks like the first part of the video is visible light, then the lights go out from the quake and the camera has some of those IR LEDs on it for "night vision" but they are also lighting up dust kicked up in the air right next to the camera...

uh... I mean ORBS! The ORBS are attacking during the quake!

it's hard to tell if the dog got a head start. that fat bloke was up and staggering around before I could see anything actually shaking. maybe the first vibrations were not picked up by the camera.

when the bearded guy gets half way through and does his jump stop did anyone else think of belushi from animal house when he is sneaking that horse into the office?

Hey, the dog got out!

Here's another angle, of the stairwell (and damn, look at those cars go): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojpmRaMwYFA

That's a bit redundant.

My dogs can usually hear the earthquake coming. You can hear the rumbling before it hits you unless you are right over the epicenter. The hippy dude looks like he started for the door because he could hear it too but it hit as he was on his way.

Yay doggie! Somehow it makes me really happy that the dog got out safely. Good thing he'd obviously rehearsed the buildings safety procedures and new where his nearest emergency exit was!

Hah, thanks for the links! Good dog.

IMO, the dog picks up on the first faint rumblings when he looks/listens/sniffs at the floor... and as soon as it grows, he gets the fark out. Seems like he might have gotten a 1 second head start on the bearded guy. Though behind a column, you can see bearded guy's chair turn to see why the dog just split, and then hops up as the building starts shaking. I'm guessing bearded guy went for the closest exit, doggie went for the door it usually goes in/out of.

Mystery solved.

Sweet! My first greenlight. I used to work in that building.

I'm not sure why it's so funny but watching that dog jump up and haul ass out of the picture had me laughing so hard I've got tears running down my face, I'm having trouble breathing, and my dog is looking at me funny. The other angle of him going around the corner and still running just made it worse, or maybe better, I haven't laughed that hard in a long time.

Go doggy go!

I've watched this replay approximately 50 bajillion times, and not once have I not laughed at the fat, bearded hippie. Hilarious.

I've been in a few quakes here & my 2 dogs do the same thing. As soon as they start freaking out barking & shait within 3 seconds you feel it. First it feels like the house is lifted & dropped, then within seconds the shaking starts.

/small drop = meh
//big drop = GTFO

I love how comic book guy freezes in front of the camera to decide if he should turn back and help the girls, but ultimately decides he has no chance with them anyways and bolts.

Humboldt County officials scurried Sunday to compile preliminary damage estimates from the 6.5 earthquake that struck the county Saturday afternoon, causing an estimated $12.

Haha, perfect place to cut off the lead-in there. $12 worth of damage.

The thing I love about earthquakes is the "every man for himself" attitude. I mean, nothing you can do but get someplace safe - but you never once see someone help someone else...it's just RUN LIKE HELL!!!!

But what does that dog know? People think a building will surly collapse...is that what the dog is thinking too?

"Let me outta here...this place was built by hippies"!!!

Hey, at least someone held the door open to let the others come out.

There's more cameras in our lives than we think; more Eureka footage, this time you can see the cat in the kitchen, then she scrambles through the livingroom: YouTube (new window).

I read somewhere (or made it up) that no animals died in the Tsunami back in '05, they were all on high ground by the time the wave got there...... I thought this dog realized what was up before anything started to happen, and if you watch the back of the chair move, the hippie realized that if the dog is freaked out, he should be as well.

Nope I pretty much remember the same thing. Not one animal body was found, though I suppose they could have washed out to sea and then washed back much later, making it a non news-event. The only mention of an animal I recall was that baby rhino I believe, who got separated from his herd and was taken to a sanctuary to live. He made friends with a giant turtle so it made news. I believe he was washed out a ways and had to be rescued.

Here's a good link for you 'no animals got killed' idgits: http://skeptico.blogs.com/skeptico/2005/02/_a_friend_sent_.html

HIS Asia reports: "Among the ruble (sic) are also thousand (sic) of dead animals. The smell is overwhelming."

In The Telegraph, Jan Egeland, the UN disaster relief co-ordinator, is reported saying: "There are thousands of dead people, and there are tens of thousands of dead animals."

The Times Online reports marine colonel Buyung Lelana, head of an evacuation team in Aceh province saying: "It smells so bad, fishy. The human bodies are mixed in with dead animals like dogs, fish, cats and goats."

An old science teacher said during an earthquake he saw an above ground swimming pool lost most of its water. It was a big quake in the late 80s/mid 90s. He said he watched the water stay put and splash out as the ground fell from beneath him.
