That stadium has the most beautiful empty seats, thousands and thousands of them.

2003-04-07 12:32:16 PM
Well at least us (transplanted) fans have the Wings.
Go WIngs!

2003-04-07 12:37:11 PM
The headline is misleading because the Tigers have scored 6 runs this season, which means that they have had at least 6 guys who have touched 3rd base and kept going. They've also had 3 doubles and 2 home runs, so it's not like they are doing horrible, they just have had one guy actually stop when he got to third base. They still suck though.

Nothing to see here, move along...

2003-04-07 12:40:15 PM
If I had 'played six games' and only gotten to third once --- I would have moved to a monestary.

2003-04-07 12:48:50 PM
Wait a sec.... *pulls out calculator..*
Six runs/Six games = Major suckage.

Wonder if they would let me play left field? I'd be a great DH too. :)

2003-04-07 12:48:55 PM
They aren't hitting it.

2003-04-07 01:42:13 PM
Those damn Yankees!

BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!

2003-04-07 02:11:57 PM
Ahh.....but the real question is. "Whose on first?"

2003-04-07 02:15:16 PM
close behind them in suckness are the Brew-crew, with a 0-6 record.

2003-04-07 02:46:24 PM
Meanwhile, what's going on in KC? Don't those guys know they're not supposed to go 5-0 at the start?

2003-04-07 06:08:29 PM
There's no way I can filter out sports news from showing up on the main page, is there?

Why the fark do we always end up with some loser complaining about sports on Fark? If you don't like it don't click it.

If you don't like it don't click it.

If you don't like it don't click it.

If you don't like it don't click it.

If you don't want to read about sports, skip the sports threads.

Life is really simple when you break it down.

The only thing detroiters use is the tigers logo, without the tiger. 313 Representing

Duke sucks?

2003-04-07 06:13:21 PM
The only thing I can say after looking at that lineup is, the payroll should be about $2 million. Most of those guys should be flipping burgers.

2003-04-07 06:13:40 PM
6 games into the season the detroit lions won't have made a third down.

2003-04-07 06:14:34 PM
Moonman9j9: Why the fark do we always end up with some loser complaining about sports on Fark? If you don't like it don't click it.

Yeah, but it sort of takes up a slot that could have been used for a non-sports related article.

0-162! 0-162! Oh wait... that's Selig's great team! Never mind...

Hey Moonman9j9, suck my butt. I don't click on them. I'm sick of seeing them. Forgive me for only wanting news about stuff that actually matters.

That too, Lordargent. Plus it takes bandwidth. If we could pick the types of news we want to see, the pages would load a lot faster. It's often kinda slow, and I'm on a T1.

Can't say I'm suprised, Brewerfanforlife... WI deserves a better baseball team. :-(

If I want b00bies and funny crap, I come here.

Brewerfanforlife, if we could select what categories we want to see, then you could unselect all except sports if you want.

Some other fun facts about my Tigers that should be noted:

They are the first team to go 0-6 in back-to-back seasons since the woeful NY Mets' first two seasons of existence.

The teams that have feasted on them thus far this year have a combined 0-6 record against everybody else.

As was noted in an earlier thread on the Motown Kittens, their starting pitching corps has a combined lifetime Major League victory total of 8.

The Tigers now have the distinction of eating the largest contract in baseball history. They gave Damion Easley $14 million in guaranteed contract money when they told him to go away, releasing him in spring training. Although Tampa Bay has since signed Easley to the league minimum salary (guess they haven't quite filled their quota of sucky players, unlike the Tig's), Detroit must still pay the remainder of Easley's guaranteed money.

Oh, it's bad. You have no idea how bad. Actually, I guess now you do.

You come to fark to read only about news that actually matters? Um right, because headlines like "heres some pics to kill some kittens too" or "old man finally finds his butt" yea thats stuff that really matters. Relax fark was intended to be a "fun" page not an "informative" page. some people find sports fun, so deal with it.

2003-04-07 06:56:17 PM
Yes, the Cubs do suck, but ya gotta love their fans. Eternal optimism is almost admirable. The Red Sox are just plain chokers. They consistently have a good team, and yet they consistently choke when it matters. Two words: Bucky Dent. But the Tigers may set a new standard in suckitude this year.

2003-04-07 06:56:45 PM

well, that my friends, is the life

PS - i hate baseball

2003-04-07 07:04:33 PM
Hey, shut up about the Cubs...this is our year or somethin'...

I vote that the Tigers are actually worse than the Bengals...the Bengals seemed to make a stride towards decency by hiring Marvin Lewis...sorry, Detroit, no points for Tram...shiat, suit him up and give him a bat with the way things are looking.

2003-04-07 07:06:01 PM
It's amazing how the total suckage of the Tigers can start a flame war.

Like sports or not like sports when a 'pro' sports team has a worse record then the worst team in a seniors league then you know there needs to be a 'Running of the Bulls' Day. The team are the only ones who get to participate.

I think the Tigers are just holding back until later in the season. They're trying to hustle everybody, and catch everybody off-guard when they're not looking.

Yeah, that's it.

2003-04-07 07:21:32 PM
It is somewhat sad, though. This used to be a baseball town. No one's ever started a season 35-5 like the 84 Tigers did.

The Tigers have been bad for more than a decade - before that, however, they had the second highest winning percentage in the AL, behind the Yankees. How the mighty have fallen. :(

2003-04-07 07:24:03 PM
Actually, the line says 'The Tigers still don't have an at-bat in baseball's prime offensive situation: a runner on third with fewer than two out,' not that they haven't had a runner on third base.

Idiot headline writer. Get it straight! They suck bad enough that you don't have to make shiat up!

2003-04-07 07:29:36 PM
Tigers are the only team with some sort of soul left though...

2003-04-07 07:33:05 PM
So they've been to third base one more time then me this year.

(Did you see what I did? I juxtaposed the literal 'getting to third base' with the figurative 'third base'. It's funny because it's true)

2003-04-07 07:33:40 PM
Well actually the Tigers were the most winningest team in the 80's.

Restore the Roar from 84!

Tigers = 2003 World Series Champs.

Representin the 734.

:-p

2003-04-07 07:40:59 PM
Sure this is sad. But, is it Farkworthy? (I suppose it technically is because someone approved the link -- but you know what I mean.)

The Tigers are terrible. They've been terrible for as long as I can remember. Television doesn't even properly convey their enormous suckitude. You have to see them in person to believe it. It's like watching the Keystone Kops play baseball.

2003-04-07 07:41:48 PM
fark all of you all.....How many times have you been on base in a major league game? That's what I thought.

The previous sentence to your quote:
That gave Shane Halter the only Tigers at-bat this season with a runner on third base.

The headline is correct.

In other news, Giants remain only undefeated team in MLB, with five (count'em) homers against the Pads. And Bonds haters may also rejoice--none were from Barry.

So what. I've been in "games" countless times and I've never been to third, and only once to second! Hah! Beat that!

... please kill me

2003-04-07 07:51:00 PM
You know, JoeyJoeJoeJr.Shabadoo, I feel really bad about the whole Twins thing. The highlight of the last twenty years was when you guys stole the Commissioner's Trophy from the Braves in 1991 (you did okay in 1987). Since then, you've teetered toward near obscurity, the league has been trying to kill off the franchise and fatass Kirby Puckett has been in and out of court more than an NFL star.

2003-04-07 07:54:07 PM
DariusMDeV asks: How many times have you been on base in a major league game?

Sometimes it is better not to do something at all than to do it really, really poorly. That is a lesson the Tigers have yet to learn.

2003-04-07 07:55:03 PM
In other news, Giants remain only undefeated team in MLB, with five (count'em) homers against the Pads. And Bonds haters may also rejoice--none were from Barry.

Psst: The Royals are 5-0, and last I checked, that makes them undefeated.

2003-04-07 07:55:13 PM
have they decided when the next strike/lockout will be?

2003-04-07 07:55:40 PM
1) It's a weird sports scene in Detroit right now. The Pistons and Wings are likely to both go into the playoffs as the #2 seeds in their conferences, and when those seasons wrap up, we get...the Tigers, and then the Lions. Ugh.
2) What's with biatching about the 2 sq. inches of screen real estate a sports link takes up? Sounds to me like somebody's overclocking or on-line role-playing isn't going too well...
3) Go Blue in Buffalo this weekend!

2003-04-07 07:56:18 PM
Yeah they really sucks.
But not as bad Boston. I mean, sure they win a pennant or two, but then they choke in the series. They haven't won since 1918 for fark sake's.
They should be called the Bosucks...

Yeah, they suck. That's a fact.

Six runs in six games is never, ever good.

2003-04-07 08:07:16 PM
Quick1, your wit is almost on the level of Haplo's.

Amosite, is TotalFark just every link that gets submitted?

Moonman9j9, I like playing sports just fine. It's spectating I don't like, watching a bunch or steroid pumped millionaires play with each other doesn't do it for me. I didn't say that sports shouldn't be posted on Fark, I'd just prefer not to see them.

Sports are a form of entertainment. People tend to care about sports. Sports are cool. They're not scripted, crappy-ass corporate TV, they're unpredictable. Get it? Probably not...

I guess I'm not as easily entertained as some people. And sports are often very predictable. Ask a bookie or professional bettor, or just look at the article this thread is for; do you think the Tigers are going to win the World Series?

While the vast majority of television is wasteland, there are several bright spots. But that's irrelevant.

You're right, though; I don't get it. I don't get why watching other people play a game is entertaining, especially when you could actually be playing yourself. I don't get why I'm supposed to prefer one team over the others simply because they happen to play closest to where I live. I don't get why I should care. Can you explain it to me?

You know, you guys don't have to be retards 24/7. You can give it a break once in a while and say, "Yeah, Beef, it would be sweet to customize Fark." That's one of the cool things about this "inter-net" doodad.

I love it when people don't understand MLBs position on contraction.

The TWINS don't make $$$$. The Expos don't make $$$$.

Do you know how many sports teams actually DO make money? The Yankees and their massive empire are the exception, not the rule. The fact is, you should not expect a sports franchise to run at a profit. They are not investments. They are toys for the very rich. Bill Wirtz (Blackhawks) said, "If you put a gun to my head, I wouldn't buy any team in the NHL, even my own." And he's a cheap bastard in the #3 market in the country.

Even the NFL and its revenue sharing do not guarantee profit.

2003-04-07 08:22:30 PM
Eraser said 'is it really a wager to bet that the Tigers are going to lose?'

Hows this for a wager?

Royals score seven runs on Bonderman. Including home runs by Sweeney, Ken Harvey and another player

Final Score: Royals 11, Tigers 1.

Syndre

/looking forward to wings / blues this year.

Let's just say, for a moment, that all 4 top seeds advance. That would mean the Red Wings would play the Avalanche, and the Blues would play Dallas in the second round. The chances of both the red wings and the Blues going to the WCF are slim to none.

2003-04-07 08:24:48 PM
When I was a kid the Tigers were awesome. They won the World Series in 84'. Sparky Anderson as manager, Allan Trammel, Lou Whitiker, Kurt Gibson. They were a great team.... then they went down hill. Really sad, but they have a nice new field. Comerica Park is really nice. I saw it when I went home to visit family. Too bad....one day Detroit will turn around and have a decent sports team again (excluding the Red Wings!).

2003-04-07 08:24:52 PM
umm try it again i guess??

Kibo: Unless you're the real Kibo by some weird chance, I must ask you to cease and desist using his name.

And anyway, Q1, I did say Major League baseball.

Last I checked, the Royals were a farm team for the A's.

Yeah, but the A's are just a farm team for the Yankees. I bet now that Derek Jeter is hurt they'll just go ahead and get Miguel Tejada since Oakland already said they can't resign him.

I'm SO glad that near-strike fixed baseball's competitive balance problem.

You can give it a break once in a while and say, "Yeah, Beef, it would be sweet to customize Fark."
How bout you make your very own website where you can do what you want?
While the vast majority of television is wasteland, there are several bright spots.
Let me guess, you get really, really, upset when sports preempt the same Simpsons you've seen 15 times?
Amosite, is TotalFark just every link that gets submitted?
They make things, they are called FArQs
Let me ask you this, mister: Do you think, that maybe just once, possibly, that the 78933 people who signed up for this website, or the tons of people who visit this page might like sports? Do you think the owner's going to go, well, shiat, let me just change is all around because one person likes to cry? You're fighting a losing battle here, pal. Quite simply, if you don't like it, don't click on it. If it bothers you that much, make you own exciting non sports page.

P.S. The turtle frickin hates you.

EC: The A's can lose Miguel Tejada, as long as they keep Billy Beane. His brand of genius counterbalances Steinbrenner's wallet. Yanks' payroll 2.5X the A's'.

Wow, close to the first week of the season. Must be nice hearing that kind of stuff so early in the season. Will take the pressure off to do well.

I read this and I'm still not sure if my above post should read 'well' or 'good'.

Need...new....links......dangerously close....to becoming.....productive!

we need a link that tells how the Packers are going to whoop all over the NFC North, breeze through the playoffs and wallup all over whatever 2nd rate AFC team shows up.

damn, I need football. I even watched NFL the otherday.

3) Go Blue in Buffalo this weekend!

You have no chance to survive, make your time.

REPEAT!

Halpas, I agree.

New Link! Please!

I'm dying here.

2003-04-07 09:03:55 PM
Only two links coming up in the queue for the next hour. Don't get your hopes up.

Damn...somebody beat me to the "I Don't Know" joke. :(

Er...uh...

"You liberals just don't get it!"

Meh...the Tigers suck anyway. Apparently, any pro sports team in the Big Four with a tiger-like logo is prone to sucking. The Detroit Tigers, the Cincinnati Bengals (that one's a given), the Nashville Predators....

Think about it.

Man, Illich needs to sell them quick. It'd put more money into the red wings and shake up the front office enough that we could avoid getting on leno or starting Fark flame wars.

MelissaX, don't be fatuous. And I'll thank you for not telling me how I should spend my time.

Hey, the Royals' magic number is 155!

Seriously, the White Sox will win the AL Central this year. You heard it here first--from the guy the said Marquette would suprise everybody (by going deep, not by getting spanked against Kansas).

At least they don't lead you on all season to fold in September...

When was the last time Cecil Fielder played for the Tigers?
What's he up to now?

2003-04-07 09:43:13 PM
Can't believe no one's done this yet:

THEY'RE (not) GRRRRRREAT!

Ku_No_Ichi:

"When was the last time Cecil Fielder played for the Tigers?

Probably having an eating contest with Rich Garces.

Sorry for the poorly-written transition, there.
I've been spending too much time in the Department of Redundancy Department.

No, thing is, Pohlao is a greedy bastard of a fair-weather fan. The guy's got BILLIONS of dollars to invest in the Twins, and yet he does nothing.
No matter, they had Ton Kelly and Terry Ryan to solve their problems without signing any pivotal free agents. Kudos to them.

The tigers have gotten to 3rd base once this season? Better than I'm doing...

Sounds like my sophmore year of highschool.
