We should look at the root cause of what made him whoever did this crime feel the need to poison innocent people and then focus on education, poverty, and racial discrimination within the community.

It would be rather amusing if the DNA cleared him as a suspect.

Crosshair: It would be rather amusing if the DNA cleared him as a suspect.

It would, although the fact that he has fought it for so long kind of makes him pretty suspect for that. Unless he had some other crimes he didn't want found out about.

The fact that we do have the protective seals and stuff now though... at least we can credit him for that, and at least it was relatively small scale. If he didn't come along, it could have been someone else, who had a much grander scheme in mind.

It really boggles my mind that this guy has a WIFE and I can't even get a dinner date. Ladies, you'd rather marry a suspected serial killer than go out with a shy nerd ?????

Good. Once they solve the cases from the 80s they can move onto the 90s and finally find out if Glenn Beck did what he is rumored to have done in the summer of 1990

I actually bought Tylenol at one of those stores back then, but fortunately not the caplet kind. The Attorney General went a long way towards ruining the investigation by telling everyone to throw away any Tylenol they bought.

Shhh! If you're not careful, you'll wind up with a TFette, and your "dinner date" will entail a firehose attached to a 55-gallon drum of turkey gravy. Bring a poncho.

Don't hold your breath. I doubt Glenn Beck will ever deny that he raped and killed a young girl in 1990.

Maybe they can now solve the Shotgun Man mystery.

Murdered 38 people in Chicago, many of them on the same street corner during broad daylight. When you're connected in Chicago, you are connected.

Article doesn't actually say what the tylenol killings were. I wasn't alive then. Stupid article.

Yes I could look it up on wikipedia in two seconds but why should I have to. The article could have been summed up in two sentences and forced people to look up what is going on other sites as well.

It's pretty infamous. A man put poisin in a bunch of tylenol and killed random people. After that, Tylenol started using more tamper resistant seals.

They probably assumed you knew.

kinshane: We should look at the root cause of what made him whoever did this crime feel the need to poison innocent people and then focus on education, poverty, and racial discrimination within the community.

And clearly the best way to do that would be to set up an outsized political comission which has carte blanch to select contractors and advisors (friends and family, by odd coincidence) who can develop and run new social programs. It's all very complicated and expensive, of course, but that's what taxes are for, right?

At least that's how we deal with things here in Detroit. We're pretty sure it'll start working soon.

The Tylenol murders changed the way foods and medicines are packaged in the U.S., introducing tamper proof packages so consumers could be certain their products had not been contaminated.

EXCEPT.. if the product was contaminated by the manufacturer but we all know that could never happen.

There was a precedent-setting court case as a spin-off from the murders. Young couple called back from honeymoon for relative's funeral. They're jet-lagged so they take some Tylenol. Of course, relative was dead due to tainted Tylenol, and they both died. Then, their families fought like animals over the estate. The legal question was whether or not to treat their deaths as 'simultaneous' for purposes of intestate distribution of the estate.

Phoenix_M: What about the lady that was actually convicted of this & is serving life or was that a copy cat.

That was a copy cat. Her name was Stella Nickel and her weapon was cyanide she placed in Excedrin capsules. Her plan was to cover up the murder of her husband with another series of Tylenol murders. One other person died.

Yeah--I thought some white trashy woman had been convicted of Tylenol tamperings to collect her husband's life insurance?

When little JonBenet Ramsey was murdered, all the evidence pointed to the parents.

Now, ten years after, we find out there was DNA from a third party in the house, and didn't match any of the suspects.

I no longer trust ahnything I read in the papers, and I trust TV a lot less.

How was he in prison for 13 years and they couldn't get a DNA sample? Did he never brush his teeth? Put a fork in his mouth? I'd think inmates would be required to submit samples as part of their processing.

Seven deaths? That's nothing.

As it is, Tylenol (acetaminophen) kills hundreds of people each and every year. No tampering required.

What's this guy accused of? Poisoning the poison?

Technically, almost everything is poison once you eat enough if it.

I do, however, think it's absurd that we have a War on Drugs in the name of public safety, yet we allow things that can easily cause liver failure to be sold OTC.

Not to mention the thousands of others that are killed by other non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (internal bleeding), or the estimated 33,000 more that are killed by acid reflux/ulcer medication (new window) (pneumonia), and on and on...

Corporate greed + government corruption is bad medicine.
