"Her vehicle started, but the tires were frozen.

"It was bump, bump, bump all the way to work with the flat spots on my tires," Tetrault said. "It was a pretty rough ride."

Most intelligent people would've stayed home. Than again, once you go north of the Red River, IQs drop almost as low as the temperature does.

Wind chill. Meh. But still dangerous.

I watched some loons go out snowmobiling in -50 before. They were on vacation and they just had to go out, no matter what the weather. They came back several hours later, and one of them had a big frostbite patch on his cheek. He thought it was hilarious. I hope he thought the doctor's bill was just as funny.

PacManDreaming: Most intelligent people would've stayed home. Than again, once you go north of the Red River, IQs drop almost as low as the temperature does.

The Red River runs North/South.

Why would you stay home because your drive to work was a little bumpy? On a related note, the people with low IQs move south because they can't survive the cold.

/It's not that cold you pussies, put on some boots/long underwear and go out and shovel the driveway.

Do try and keep up.

And wind chill temperature, regardless how much you want to sensationalize the cold weather. Grow a pair you pussies. It was almost that cold here last night and I was in the hot tub, which includes a mostly naked jaunt of 50' through a snowbank barefoot to get in and out of.

Yes it does, it forms the eastern border of North Dakota. Trust me, I live within a mile or so of the river. It goes North/South.

"Wind chill". Not actual temperature.
It should be noted that many formulae exist for wind chill because there is no agreed standard for what the term should mean (as of Dec 2009). All the formulae attempt to provide the ability to qualitatively predict the effect of wind on the temperature humans perceive. Within different countries weather services use a standard for their country or region.

Bill Engvall once said, "'Wind chill' is how you might feel if you were standing outside naked in a snowstorm."

Wind chill is mostly irrelevant if you are wearing winter clothes and have proper head coverings.

How many times do I have to say this? It's CLIMATE CHANGE, PEOPLE! CLIMATE! CHANGE! It's not global warming anymore. By saying, "Climate Change" we can show that any weather pattern is a sign we're all gonna die.

Wind chill subby. Wind chill. It's north dakota it's always freaking cold with the wind chill there.

Beat the -130 (it was either last year or two years ago). Some mountains in the northeast hit -130 windchill.

I've noticed that slackers and general wastes of skin tend to live down south, where the living is easier. It's not as much fun being a drain on society if you have to stay inside most of the time, instead of sitting outside on your couch.

The Great White North: We're all unemployed, but we still have to work.

I used to ride a motorcycle to work in -20F weather when that was all I could afford and never considered taking a day off. I needed the money. However, I had the sense to use a full face helmet, a helmet skirt, a snowmobile suit, and proper boots. No exposed flesh whatever. I added a "snorkel" I made from a new section of fuel line. I inhaled through my nose, and exhaled through the snorkel. This kept my visor from fogging if the weather was reasonably cold. The only problem with that was that an icicle of drool would freeze to the front of my snowmobile suit.

Anyway, I would snowmobile in -50F weather. I'd carry some survival gear, too, in addition to the gear I described. My point is that we aren't loons, really. Humans may sometimes be loony, but they can also be more adaptable than loons. Loons do sing nicely, though, and they swim mighty well too.

// Set loony off. If only I could.

I remember driving around with my brother one year when the temp was -40F and the wind gusting to 50mph (which made the wind chill somewhere around -90). It seemed like something out of a sci-fi movie (of course we were stoned off our asses, which might have added to the effect).

char_boy: I've been to North Dakota. Not intersting. Hell would have to freeze over first. That's colder than -52° F.

I've been to many, many places in the world and find ND very interesting. I also find it wonderful that my kids can go wherever they want without fear of them being kidnapped/molested. I find it amusing that our newspapers are filled with mindless crap rather than murder, here, robbery there. It's awesome that our economy is one of the strongest in the country. It's pretty cool that I'm not out looking for work. It's really neat that I have a huge house with a gigantic yard and I'm paying less for my mortgage than I did for a crappy one bedroom apartment in Los Angeles. And when I feel the urge to get to a city or to warmth, I can be on either coast in about 5 hours thanks to these neat inventions called "airplanes."

You're right, it totally sucks there! Stay away! Far away!
