It's a shame Kelly Leak never got past his little league glory days.

It looks like they took all the humor out of the film. The humor, IMHO, is what made Nightmare great and Freddy cool.

2010-01-07 04:02:33 PM
It was humorous. i laughed AT it.

the first one was totally serious. no humor from Freddy.

#2 is best left forgotten.

that said, the first one gave us some full frontal Heather Langenkamp *lust* in the bathtub scene. Think we'll get that in the new one?

The humor was added in as the movies progressed and went from moderately amusing in the first one to down right campy in the most recent.

Its a horror movie, Im happy they took the comedy out

Humor has always been part of the best horror.

Are you kidding me? Humor is what killed the original franchise, with Freddy ending up a dark stand up comedian instead of the terrorizing figure from the original. Why do you think Wes Craven was only involved with three of them (original ,Dream Warriors, and New Nightmare).

2010-01-07 04:12:01 PM
You know, at this point...I'm just looking forward to it so we can get a release of the films (remastered) and the entire Freddy's Nightmares show on DVD. That way I can laugh at the cheesy, get a little creeped out by everything else, and be happier than I would watching Rorschach pretend to be a burn victim.

Wes Craven's New Nightmare was my favorite. This looks like it has potential. Although I wonder how much influence Michael "Boom Boom" Bay had in creating it.

Well moderated and within reason. And then you get attempted comedy attempts like Jason X with the whole "Guys, it's okay! He just wanted his machete back!"

I face palmed at that... it was about as bad as Garbage Day clip

2010-01-07 04:18:32 PM
Meh. The original is a classic from my childhood. All these remakes piss me off. Nobody can replace Robert Englund as Krueger. NOBODY! First they butcher Psycho, then they molest Halloween, and now they fark with Nightmare? Stop pissing in my cheerios Whoreywood.

Humor has its place in horror to a certain extent. Its to provide the audience some time to catch their breath before the next big scare.

Agreed. That one still had one of the best kills ever though. Liquid nitrogen FTW.

It looks good.

And yeah the best thing that could happen to the Elm Street franchise is losing the humor.

The original Freddy was not one for wisecracks except just to be an extra-special dick.

dopeydwarf: Agreed. That one still had one of the best kills ever though. Liquid nitrogen FTW.

I can give a nod to that as well.. it did have some pretty decent death scenes. Although in the friday the 13th series being split in two with a tent stake is still my fav.

With the Nightmare series, being walked out like a puppet by your veins creeped me the fark out when I was younger.

He should do a movie where he plays Seth Green.

2010-01-07 04:21:33 PM
The first one had humor. I remember Heather Langenkamp looking into a mirror and, reacting to her haggard, sleepless countenance, exclaiming "God, I look like I'm TWENTY!"

I also thought the part where the mom gets pulled through the door was kind of funny.

2010-01-07 04:21:45 PM
BTW, does anyone else find Jackie Earl Haley to be a creepier name than Freddy Krueger? Sounds like a serial killer to me. Everyone knows all the best serial killers use their middle name.

An article about the remake of a movie made by a company named "New Line Cinema" should have warranted the irony tag.

Yeah, not trying to harp on you too much about this, but where was the humor in the first one?

By the way, I'll tell you what's funny. It's the "horror" movies they try to pass off as scary these days.

/Lawn. It's green.

New Nightmare and Freddy vs. Jason are my favorites. New Nightmare for the obvious reason that they played it as if Freddy was real and he was haunting the people that made a story about him, and Freddy vs. Jason for the simple fact that you rooted for both of them to kill completely dead (meaning, not undead, not roaming around in nightmares, etc.) the other one.

2010-01-07 04:28:40 PM
Freddy only became funny because 80s Hollywood execs realized he was a much more marketable character if he was sort of loveable.

But in no way was the original scarred child molester/murderer a comedic figure. That's what your childhood memories have done to the guy.

If Freddy was real, I bet that would terrify him.

Check out the commentary and documentary on the recent Special Edition. Wasn't her. Body double. Which makes me scratch my head since she did another movie that same year and had no problem doing the copious nudity in that one. Scheduling conflict, maybe...

Not disagreeing, exactly, but the first Nightmare but New Line on the map. It could be considered their flagship.

The release date is a count down. 4/3/2010. Corporate hack must have seen Watchmen release date.

But it didn't feel out of place IMHO, it felt like a pervert being a pervert and making a joke at someone elses expense. Humor in horror movies works best when we're not supposed to laugh at the joke or moment because the moment we do we're just a sick and twisted as the antagonist.

The Hitcher had some great sick comedy moments too, which IMHO is a great reference film for how to get comedy in a horror movie.

It is almost impossible to have a true horror movie. You have to either interject action, or comedy into it. Horror movies fall flat on their faces without another component.

It is just Gen-X writers and producers. They are a pack of unoriginal children. They forever pineing for their childhood, causeing all these remakes and then whine when the remake does not live up to their childish expectations. This generation needs to shut its ageing hippster mouth and grow the fark up, christ these assholes are about 30 now and still a bunch of slacker fark ups.

He moves like Freddy, but he just doesn't have the voice. Granted, Englund's was pitch-shifted, but it sounded menacing. Even at his most playful, you never forgot how evil he was.

I wish some cable channel would have a marathon of Freddy's Nightmares before this gets released. Yeah, it was a cheap Outer Limits/Twilight Zone knockoff, but it had some good episodes. The one where a girl was stuck in a dream, watching her family gradually succumb to radiation poisioning as she remembered launch codes for nukes...the "conformity episode" where a kid refuses to be like everyone else, only to find out that they're being turned into robots. I was like 9 or 10 when that was released and was freaked after he tried to grab his friend from the conversion plant, only to have his robot arm pull off into his hands. At the time, I'd never seen a Nightmare movie. I didn't have the stomach for horror until a few years later. The trailers alone - combined with my restless, overactive imagination - were more than enough to horrify me. Later down the line, I found that the blanks my imagination filled in were far worse than the films themselves.

Friday the 13th, though unrelated to the show, also had some decent eps.

That's probably true of about 98.9% of horror movies. Hell, a trip down the Horror VHS aisle as a kid used to freak the bejeezus out of me - some of the box covers really sent my imagination reeling. The movies themselves, however, were usually silly as hell.

That movie was awesome. Girl hanging on to a metal bar in a spaceship that had a hole blown in the side, and not only is she not instantly depressurized, but she says "this sucks on so many levels."

PUN MASTERPIECE

Serial killers are often listed by all three names simply because that's how the criminal case was filed.
