In a different article (new window)about this incident, it was disclosed that a jar of honey set off bomb detection equipment and 2 TSA workers were hospitalized because of the fumes released when they opened a bottle of honey.

bwahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!

What's scary subby is that the airport was shutdown because a guy had some honey in his carry on & theTSA goons freaked out over HONEY it was farking bottled honey and they shutdown the airport.

"The officers were also treated and released from the hospital after being exposed to what were described as "fumes" from the bottles."

We are farking doomed as a country.

Well, it was Bakersfield. Any substance found there that doesn't smell like either an oil well fire or a short circuit in a pottery kiln full of shiat is bound to be an unfamiliar substance for them, and therefore suspicious. So we can probably cut them some slack.

Traveler inconvenienced!

I can't decide what is better. TSA saying he should have known better than to put honey in his luggage (you can't carry it on) or TSA saying the system worked because honey had them shut down the airport.

Being that the Bakersfield "airport" is a quarter-mile long strip of paved dirt with a tower at one end and a gas tank at the other, you have to understand that the existence of a PASSENGER was cause enough for a security alert.

They have an airport in Bakersfied? They don't have an airport in Pismo, and that's the only place they know how to get to.

Lemme guess, all the planes have big ol' "#3" stickers on them.

Airport headline turkey!

As a Bakersfield resident here I should include my hometown insight on what actually happened...

Actually the bomb sniffing machine at the airport found "traces" of TNT in the bag that held the honey and that's what caused all the problems.

As for the TSA people, they probably feigned illness so they could take the day off.

So the whole thing was the security measures were working as intended, it's just the media blew everything out of proportion as usual.

Somebody actually wanting to go to bakersfield of their own free will probably triggered a security alert.

The security measures didn't work if the airport was shut down for no legit reason. If you find a trace you investigate, not shut down.

Actually it's a lot bigger than that.

I wouldnt go that far. If you're job is to prevent explosives from entering a plane, and you're equipment tests something positive for being explosive, and you see suspicious containers filled with an amber, gel like substance, good for you for not soiling yourself. Now, I wouldnt say they are the sharpest knives out of the bunch, but the mind can play some crazy games with you.

actually they built a new airport a few years back with an actual terminal and security checkpoint. it's surprisingly nice for such a small airport in such a crappy town.

If the two taken to the hospital because of "honey fumes" (I read the other, more detailed article real shaman linked) keep their jobs, you KNOW how lame the TSA is and always will be.

Mark another one (as temporary as I can possibly hope...)

The stat is that 13% of the city's residents age 25 or older have a college degree. I'm surprised it's that high.

Bullshiat nothing tested positive for explosives the TSA was going thru the luggage found the honey and freaked out. The testing positive is just their cover story

The TSA workers can play the game, can't they? Just like the SAA's that hop onto any bus that has a minor accident and start grabbing the neck. Just think! They are going to have a union soon. Might as well just start a fund now to pay for the lottery suits coming.

I feel safe. Thank God my government has my back.

As much as Amtrack sucks, It sucks so much less. I was going to fly back from California to Ohio to visit my dad who just finished his first round of Chemo. I am either driving or taking the train.

I remember when there were smoking sections on planes and I could bring a flask on board, oh yea and the stewardesses weren't air hags. That was only the 90's.

Thank you, FBI and TSA for not following up on CIA leads.

Bakersfield is too big now.

Hell ALL of the San Joaquin towns are too big now.

This is some of the most fertile farmland on the planet, and you're putting in tract homes.

WTF are you doing? This is *California farmland* not Las Vegas desert.

Yeah, the little bit of fresh air trapped between the honey and lid probably knocked them out.

But seriously, I am getting a kick over imagining these two pantomiming being taken down by honey fumes in order to get the day off. I imagine them actually starting to get hysterical and believe it themselves. If you've ever watched people working themselves up into a state in church you'll know what I'm talking about.

"OH LAAAAAAAWD I FEEL THE FUMES! I FEEL THE FUMES IN MY LUNGS! I DON'T THINK I CAN BREATHE! THE FUMES ARE IN MY LUNGS!"

But, as an apologist, I must confess there is a terrible irony in people ignorant of Bakersfield labeling residents of Bakersfield as being ignorant.

Spent a weekend in Bakersfield. Longest two weeks of my life.
Plus, as soon as I entered the city limits, my belt buckle got real big and I started talkin' like an Okie.

The only thing I really love about Bakersfield is their large, open-air museum, created from relocated buildings around the area and made to look like a 1890's frontier town, complete with Victorian mansions and steam trains. Very cool.

I'm not forming an opinion on this story until either PocketNinja or Weaver95 weigh in, since they obviously were denied Boobies status.

That is all.

TRACES

OF

TNT

...is what was just said. Can you read, smartass?

I was driving home early Sunday morning through Bakersfield listening to gospel music on the colored radio station. And the preacher said 'You know, you always have the Lord by your side.' And I was so pleased to be informed of this that I ran 20 red lights in His honor.
