Well to be fair, usually everything is worked out ahead of time and the "conference" is just so everyone can get their pictures taken.

Israel has universal healthcare that pays for abortions. Did you know that?

By subsidizing Israel, the US taxpayer is paying for Israeli abortions.

You actually expect me to believe that? There's no such thing as a union negotiation without strippers.

What I hate the most about that entire situation is how both sides are trying to straddle the line: Israel overreacts by throwing banned munitions at civilians and claiming land gained through war as its own, but won't simply push its neighbors out completely; meanwhile, the PA keeps poking its bigger, better equipped, and better funded roommate with a sharp stick and screaming bloody murder when it gets smacked.

Israel: either go full-tilt and wipe the bastards out or quit talking tough, man up to your mistakes, and work through this. You're supposed to be the civilized party here; either act like it or don't... you can't have both.

PA: stop pissing Israel off. They're bigger than you, and your Arab-world buddies won't stop them from wiping you off the map if they choose to do so. Play the part of the persecuted but civilized government or stick with launching bottle rockets at a country armed with nukes... you can't have both.

Both of you: shut the fark up already. We're tired of your constant squabbling, and the entire world would be happier if you wiped each other out.

How does their Universal Health care work? Single payer? Taxpayer funded? Is it a constitutional right? Just curious.

On a lesser note, do wounded Palestinians sneak across the border to get free treatment for their white phosphorus burns?

It's been said before, but I'll say it again:

The day the PA decides to embrace non-violent resistance, they win, plain and simple. It worked for Ghandi, it worked for King, it worked for Mandela - hell, it even works for some Israelis.

All they need to do is sit down in the streets of Gaza, hold hands, sing "We Shall Overcome" or its Arabic equivalent, and refuse to eat until the Israeli army opens the borders. The seige will be broken in under 2 weeks. Israel would have no choice.

But sadly, the PA is a militant organization. Their pride and their interpretation of the Qu'ran won't let them do that. They're not in it to free Palestine, they're in it to demonize Israel and gain petty domestic political advantages. And so long as that is the case, nothing will change.

Did you know that last week 50,000 Palestinians peacefully demonstrated against Egypt's participation in the siege of Gaza?
Did you know that several cities in the West Bank have weekly protests against the wall being built through their communities, and they are routinely shot at and arrested by Israeli soldiers?
What they do doesn't matter if no one hears about it.

But that's not nearly bomb-y or outrage-y enough for radicalized muslims. Won't work. One needs to have constant, shouting, exploding crazy to get anything done over there. Like this:

So according to you, what's the source of that social pathology which is apparently unique to Palestinians? Is it genetic, perhaps? Or are you simply dismissive of the idea that people who have been under occupation for 40 years might be a little upset? Are you racist, or an idiot of some other kind?

Yeah, you're ascribing a unique behavior to a people en bloc apparently based on their race, while ignoring the much more likely possibility that they're upset at a continuing occupation, mass land theft, and economic deterioration directly caused by a siege and occupation.

Yes I did, and no it doesn't.

Without a credible leader, a good public face, all the civil disobedience in the world just looks like a mob, and can be sold as such. You need a proven man (or woman) of peace, a Gandhi, a King, someone willing to get the crap beaten out of them repeatedly and publicly in order to break down the walls.

And the Palestinian King would have to be TRULY special, because of all the beheadings, suicide bombings, terrorism and militancy that have come before. He (or she) has a LOT of negativity to live down first.

Also...I may get myself in trouble here, but it may just be that 'turn the other cheek' isn't much of a Muslim ethos. I don't know enough about the particulars of the faith to say, but maybe what seems obvious to a Christian, Buddhist or Hindu seems anathema to a Muslim, and so there's just no cultural basis there?

/correct me if (when?) I'm wrong

Those white phosphorus shells were not anti-personnel varieties. They were smoke shells that are specifically designed to make poor anti-personnel weapons.

Will they cause panic and confusion? Yes. Are they going to kill someone? Not unless you sit on one of the wedges.

Other than that, good post.

Not wanting to address the whole post, just this caught my eye.

Isn't that how it generally works and how MOST changes to any country's borders throughout history have occurred? Islamic marketing and propaganda aside, it's not like it was some unprecedented act of aggression or something... Doubly so since they gained that land during a war where they were attacked and invaded by the surrounding countries, I'd say...

Are there only two races that exist? White and non-white?
The people in power in Israel think that one race (Hebrew) is superior to another (Arab).

Regardless of their ridiculous theology, they are racist. They use their theology, however, to justify their racism. "Chosen people" and all that.
