you know what subby, i bet you didn't even ask daniel day-lewis for a comment. i bet you just lazily assumed that he wouldn't take the time to comment on a story that is unrelated to his body of work. that's yellow journalism at it's worst subby, i hope you're proud of yourself.

The suspect's trail, while not gone completely cold, seems to be leading investigators in circles.

This is the best headline evar! Lewis was not only the My Left Foot guy, he was a cobbler in real life. Two semi-obscure references in one headline. I need a nap.

This is still happening? When I worked at a shoe store in the 90's, we had our Jordan's and high priced displays tied/locked to the gridwall.

do they only display right footed shoes in Denmark? something is missing from this story

I have a very hard time believing these criminals steal the same shoes.. model color, etc. from two seperate countries becuase Sweden displays left shoes and Denmark displays right shoes.

This sounds like one of those 'brilliant' plans from a Scooby Doo gang. I suppose they were going to smuggle them to Norway next using the haunted Viking ship of Lief Redbeard, kept in a hidden cave on the fjord.

Yes. That's where they disassemble the shoes, dye them, then reassemble them so they more closely resemble each other. Then it's off to Singapore...

/ Anyone care to continue?

It's obviously the work of the caretaker, old man Hendersen.

Stay classy Malmoe!

Not that it is any better, but at least this con is not as annoying as the "oh, I lost my wallet and am stuck on this side of the Sound. Can you spare a tenner, please?-one they have going on in Malmoe and Lund, at least for the general public.

I fell for it once (it was my first day in the city, meh) and then bumped into the same person a couple of days later. She asked again and when I said 'sorry can't understand you', the girl actually rolled her eyes at me and recited the whole line in English while holding her hand, palm up, towards me.

/it was sort of funny, actually

Sybarite: I'm trying to figure out why they have to steal the pair from two different countries.

I think only one shoe is on display so you can try it on.

I am assuming in Sweden they display the left shoe, while in Denmark the right one. Perhaps Denmark and Sweden should agree on a standard so this would not happen.

Cheron: Stitch?

My thoughts exactly. Glad to see I wasn't the only one.

"His destructive programming is taking effect. He will be irresistibly drawn to large cities, where he will back up sewers, reverse street signs, and steal everyone's left shoe."

According to detective Stig Möller of the Malmö police, it is not an uncommon modus operandi. The thieves will first steal the left shoes in Sweden and then travel to Denmark to steal their right counterparts.

This sounds all to familiar to me. After stealing a silk top hat in Paris, I had to travel to Berlin to shoplift a monocle. Only then was I able to hop on a flight to Singapore to swipe the spats I had been coveting.
