I'm using adblock so I didn't notice. I actually white list Fark (along with other websites I like with advertising that isn't in your face), but I'm currently using my girlfriend's computer, so they're blocked. I guess I won't be turning them off on here tonight.

I was the recipient of a similar Good Samaritan incident in Chicago.

My flight out of Denver to O'Hare on Christmas Eve was delayed by about 30 minutes for some random reason, so when I landed at O'Hare I missed my connection by what must have been two minutes. I went over to customer "service" and was informed that was the last flight home that night, and there were only two on Christmas Day, a 1:00 and an 8:05. And of course United was going to blame it on the weather and not help us out, despite the fact that my delay was not weather-related at all (the customer service agent just pointed to the weather map behind her with a scowl on her face.)

Fortunately, I found a middle-aged couple behind me that had missed the same connection. We decided to try renting a car and driving, but after two hours of searching everyone we could find in the frigging city of Chicago was out, so we biatched to a different United agent and they put us up in the Hilton. We rode the CTA and walked a mile downtown through the ghetto in full-force rain to get booze to drown our sorrows, then watched A Christmas Story together.

We caught a flight out at 1 PM Christmas Day. Without them, I would have been completely alone in a strange city for Christmas.

Sometimes people aren't dicks, especially when they're in the same boat.

Don't blame him; far too many businesses *want* to outsource in the first place. No idea if that trend has changed lately or if we're still outsourcing like when it was the hot new thing to do.

I'm guessing the guy paid for the lady's room and board out of his pocket, not out of some ACS slush fund. I'm wondering, though, if he's just characteristic of ACS, whose education support services division administers my student loan repayment plan. I used to be with Sallie Mae, which was bleeding me dry and treating me like shiate. I consolidated with ACS, which always answers any queries I have immediately, gets me my tax info and other necessary paperwork in a timely manner and with a minimum of fuss, and has lowered my interest rate twice just for paying on time. My loans will be fully discharged by September next year. If I were still with Sallie Mae, I'd be paying them off well into retirement.

/yeah yeah, cool story, et c.
