Though it pains me to admit this, that's probably a better example.

You mean 10 or more people watched it?

no no no- It's "EnnnnnBe-Cee!"

I'll eat crow, but it won't make me watch it.

They're free to play pinochle in Hell for screwing over MST3K.

2010-01-03 07:31:14 PM
Well... Stargate: Universe isn't terrible. It's a bit darker and more "Stargate: Galactica" than I was expecting, but it's pretty good.

They still have Eureka, which has been consistently good from the start.

Caprica is coming out soon. I've seen the pilot movie, so I'm looking forward to it.

Oh, and Warehouse 13 was a pleasant surprise.

All in all, they've been doing alright. I don't have any real complaints other than the usual weekly Saturday night movie shiat-fest and the decidedly non-science fiction-related wrestling programming.

Shostie: Caprica is coming out soon. I've seen the pilot movie, so I'm looking forward to it.

Me too. There's rooms on the Internet there were actual thirteen year old girls go to have sex. And no Chris Hansen in sight!

I can honestly say I've not watched "SyFy" since they started with that inane name. I will probably come back for Caprica, though I'm still working through my bitterness and rage over the goat fark that was the Battlestar's finale.
Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener: They're free to play pinochle in Hell for screwing over MST3K.

Oh. And this.

And I thought I was the only other person in the world that hated the finale.

Networks play with lineups all the time, sometimes it works out.

Also, feel free to ignore that the station had been steadily improving in the ratings, going back to before the rebranding.

Personally I think it's all just so that they can trademark the name.

2010-01-03 07:53:27 PM
I loved Galactica. (Other than the last half of season 4.)

I didn't like Caprica. Too much emo for me.

2010-01-03 08:05:47 PM
I'll start watching the SyFy channel again when they bring back the best show they ever had. (^)

My attitude toward the name change was weariness followed by disgust. Why couldn't they pick *sigh*FIE!

/Fie, I say!

Looking forward to Caprica - and not much else.

I still think Syfy is stupid.

Hates them for what they did to MST3K - but on the plus side, I have Rifftrax and Cinematic Titanic, so I'm good.

2010-01-03 08:14:04 PM
Why I hate 'SyFy': MST3K and Farscape.

Stargate ran too long, could have ended on a real up-note when SG-1 went fishing. BSG was good, I tuned in every week and was only mildly pissed off with the predictable ending. Eureka was pure geek humor at times, but the network kept splitting the seasons up and never bringing it back. I know, writers strike, but the network could have at least advertised when it would be back after the strike was done. And that Ani-Monday repeat festival?

All in all, SyFy has a habit of farking with good shows. If Ghost Hunter style crap brings them money, then I can only hope they enjoy their new demographic while SF and science fiction fans go elsewhere.

2010-01-03 08:32:26 PM
ykarie: BSG was good, I tuned in every week and was only mildly pissed off with the predictable ending.

How was that ending predictable?

You know what would have been predictable? Galactica and the main cast incinerating themselves destroying the last of the Cylon fleet in order to save humanity. THAT would have been predictable. THAT would have been the way a Battlestar is supposed to die. Just like Pegasus.

No, them abandoning all modern conveniences to go have sex with a bunch of monkeys was NOT predictable. It wasn't even sane. And the hallucinations being real and watching everything? Not predictable, just stupid.

2010-01-03 08:43:12 PM
I don't think I've tuned in since the rebranding. And it's not for lack of trying. I keep going through my channel guide, seeing if they're showing anything I want to watch. They haven't.

Here. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt just to prove I'm not "hating" or "being a hater" or whatever the kids call it. What's on right now?

"Swamp Devil," starring people I've never heard of. Up next at 9:00 is "Sea Beast," starring Corin Nemec. You might know him as Parker Lewis. And after that is "Eye of the Beast" starring James Van Der Beek. That's some quality programming.

2010-01-03 08:56:20 PM
GreenAdder: That's some quality programming.

Don't change that channel! You could watch plumbers run around in the dark!

I already have "New Super Mario Bros Wii."

The Icelander: ykarie: BSG was good, I tuned in every week and was only mildly pissed off with the predictable ending.

Predictable based on what was known about the director. Inside the mythos of the show, yeah, it was an absurd ending that made no sense at all. Outside the show, knowing the director wanted to continue with his take on a Christian message that the original referenced as a Mormon story, it was predictable.

Television for Womyn?

2010-01-03 09:31:06 PM
I can't say that I watch the channel much anymore. Used to. Farscape. Stargate and other series, but with all the wrestling and crap-tac-ular fantasy, disaster, and Monster Animal movies, there isn't much there for me. USA has better programming, and the execs over at the SyFy seem bound and determined to NOT show any actual science fiction on the channel any more. Ghost Hunters? Really?

I think I watch more G4 than dropping by to see what crappy series that SyFy is trying to resurrect. Cripes, even the BBC channels have better science fiction.

2010-01-03 09:32:38 PM
I think the name change is dumb, and a bit of a slap to the scifi fans who have always supported them, but oh well, they are in it to make money and will do what they need to make more. Just like everyone else.

My only request...can I get some motherfarkin Babylon 5 reruns?

Well that request may be a bit late, as Im going to buy the dvd set very soon. Would have been nice to have been able to catch it on TV.

Hell, Id still watch it on TV even if i owned the dvds...

I never watched BSG, I was still haunted by flashbacks to the original series. However, is the summation you posted correct? The crew of the Galactica went native and started shagging apes? WTF?

2010-01-03 09:33:57 PM
I think the only thing I've watched on Sci-Fy SyFy since the switch was the Twilight Zone marathon they had going on New Year's Eve/Day.

Not much else on that network I feel driven to watch.

But, then, I don't watch much TV anymore anyway, so my opinion's probably less relevant than most.

/also begrudge the loss of MST3K

Midnight Meat Train was a good movie, what are you talking about?

Only things I watch on Syfy are Eureka, Stargate Universe and Doctor Who and the latter was only shown on BBC this season.

2010-01-03 09:44:04 PM
our viewership went from 1 to 2. woooeeee. we've doubled our numbers. somebody break open the champagne.

Besides Stargate Universe, SyFy is still a whirlpool of suckage.

Instead of pouring a 40 oz. on the pavement, I'm pouring a flower vase of the Killer Shrew drink on the ground for the show.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the multiple mentions of Farscape in this thread.

As a self-appointed Farscape Evangelist, I'd suggest everyone pick up the new series set from Amazon and think good thoughts about the relaunch of Farscape that continues to be talked about.

theorellior: I never watched BSG, I was still haunted by flashbacks to the original series. However, is the summation you posted correct? The crew of the Galactica went native and started shagging apes? WTF?

Yes. They found our planet and discovered that they could breed with the nomadic peoples living there. Then they decided to ditch all that useless stuff like clean water and hot showers and go have sex with them.

Doctor Who is now on BBC America and the schedule is close to the actual UK showing so I now have no reason to ever watch SYFY again.

There was a time when the Sci-Fi Channel actually liked to play science fiction shows and movies. Now, that's apparently too "sciencey" for them, and instead they focus on the pseudo-science garbage and conspiracy theory crap--and a fark ton of "urban fantasy" garbage that is cheaper to film and much less highbrow than trying to actually do some fact checking on occasion.

I miss the days when they aired science fiction shows and movies. It's getting rarer and rarer and in a way, I'm glad that they "rebranded" so folks wouldn't have to go in and be disappointed by their programming on the idea that they were a network dedicated to a genre. Instead, they can just use the goofy name, and eventually, they can forget the original premise, and just show Ghost Hunters and wrasslin' 22 hours a day...

It's not like the ending made any less sense than the rest of the series.

JJ Abrams redeemed himself in my mind when he did Star Trek, and what he's been doing with Fringe for storytelling. BSG just cemented into my head that Ron Moore projects are to be avoided like Uwe Bolls'...

Don't listen to the hater. If you want an accurate synopsis of the finale, there are plenty of websites you could visit for one, or you could even watch it yourself. Fark is where you come to listen to people biatch about stuff; you should never use it as a source for things you might like.

ChicagoFarker: yeah, and Kartoon neytwerk!

They already tried that: they changed to logo to "CN" and were showing freaking reality TV earlier this year.

Fortunately, they seem to have come to their senses and have stopped that crap. They're also airing Looney Tunes for the first time in at least five years. It's only an hour a day, but it's a start.
