Rorschach's Weaver95's Journal. October 12th, 1985. Dog carcass in politics tab this morning, tire tread on burst stomach. This thread is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout 'Save us!' And I'll look down, and whisper 'no.'

no TDK? OMGWTFLOLEABOD

/is that what we're looking for here?

2010-01-02 01:22:41 PM
While TDK obviously belongs, its an otherwise good list.

That reminds me, I haven't seen Ghost World yet.

It is an interesting movie. Not great, not bad.

List looks OK to me. What makes it FAIL, enigmaticmitter?

2010-01-02 02:17:19 PM
The Director's Cut of Watchmen is definitely better. Hollis Mason's death scene was great. I do wish they had picked a different actress for Laurie though.

2010-01-02 02:39:02 PM
outside of TDK not being listed, wasn't really a bad list.

2010-01-02 02:40:26 PM
No Howard the Duck?

2010-01-02 02:40:26 PM
Ghost World and American Splendor are on the list, and that's good enough for me.

2010-01-02 02:42:09 PM
I don't have any real problem with this list.

2010-01-02 02:42:49 PM
am i the only one here who thinks silent hill belongs on that list?

2010-01-02 02:43:47 PM
I didn't see it. If Spiderman 3 or X-men 3 were there, I'd have seen it. I give the ones I haven't see a pass (either foreign or not mainstream) and the rest get at least a "good".

Well, you might be the only one here who thinks video games are comic books.

I'm glad X3 wasn't on the list. I'm tired of defending it from the fanboy attacks.

It's already been said, but I'll be more specific. If they'd replaced X2 with The Dark Knight then the list would have been pretty much perfect.

FTFY.

Can't stand Dunst or Maguire.

Weisenheimer: I'm glad X3 wasn't on the list. I'm tired of defending it from the fanboy attacks.

You know what pisses me off the most about X3? The fact that you can clearly see the sections of the movie that David Hayter wrote in his original script and right when you think things are about to turn around it goes right down the CG fight scene crapper. You know everything was there for the movie to be good, you can see it, but it never happens.

Needs more Sin City, too.

I was expecting Spiderman 3 due to the FAIL tag.

appaently saying tdk is too farking abstract for some people. The Dark Knight is not on this list, Therefore it is FAIL!!!

Get It?

Bonus: Watching it as we speak

Since Silent Hill is a video game, not a comic, I'd have to go with

"Yes. Yes you are the only one who thinks it should be on the list."

The Dark Knight is not based on a comic book. Sure, its influenced by a few specific ones, but the storyline is new.

FTFA:

Fidelity to source material is not really the criteria here.

Also:

This list is a work of opinion, not a mathematical proof; as such there is no wrong or right answer.

That second one's not to you, specifically, but more to the people who want to whine about TDK not being on there. Being someone who understands that different people like different things, myself, I can understand and appreciate this sentiment, while politely disagreeing with his opinion.

Of course, were the author and I to meet, there would be loud nerd fighting, while drinking Mountain Dew and eating Cheetos...

:-)

No Dark Knight
No History of Violence
No Road to Perdition
No Persepolis

Yeah, I think it earned a fail tag.

I think Sin City is better than 300. Other than that? Not much to gripe about.

Or Hellboy II.

2010-01-02 03:24:10 PM
Thought it was a pretty solid list. I'd probably switch Hellboy 2 with The Dark Knight. Although Hellboy 2 was enjoyable, it felt like Del Toro had half the sets and costumes leftover from Pan's Labyrinth.

/Loves me some Ghostworld
//still think Thora Birch is hot

Okay, I'm just going to put this here and see what happens:

Bale's voice ruined TDK for me. I hated his Batman voice. I hated hated hated hated hated it.

Maybe because I loved Batman: The Animated Series, Batman/Superman and Justice League so much. Whenever I see Batman, I expect the animated version's voice to come out. I didn't like the gritty, growl of Bale's Batman.

Also, Spider-Man 2 is, in my opinion, much better than TDK. The train scene is one of the coolest moments for me. The fight was great, but then when Spidey passed out and the train passengers picked him up and helped him? Chills. Especially the "He's just a kid..." line.

Swampthing in Korea: No History of Violence?

am I the only one not impressed with this film? It was okay, but by the time the credits rolled, it felt like a great, big "That's it?" film.

Much as I hate DC, I would grudgingly admit that Dark Knight and probably also Superman 2 belong on that list. 300 and Ichi-whatever don't.

The supposed charms of "Terminator 2" and "Aliens" and "True Lies" have proven ever-elusive to me.

eh, you can talk shiat about T2 and True Lies (I like them both, but T2 really only beats the original in terms of special effects. Haven't seen True Lies in years), but Aliens is solid gold.

If you haven't done so as of yet, read the source material.
Cronenberg and his screenwriter only adapted at most the first half of it faithfully. The film wildly diverges from the graphic novel after that point. I think that the graphic novel was better (although I understand why they didn't more faithfully adapt it [as there's no way that they could have done so and not receive an "X" rating for violence {the film added waaaay more sex/nudity than was ever in the source material}].

I still think it was Cronenberg's best film since "Naked Lunch" [and I'm a hardcore Cronenberg fanboi].

You goddamn well take that back.

The comic V for Vendetta was great because of the moral ambiguity and three dimensional characters. V was absolutely insane, the dictator was emotionally isolated, the only decent person was the cop working for the regime.

Whilst it is pretty obvious the government is racist and authoritarian, Alan Moore when to great lengths to make sure that the reader is uncertain that the decision to topple it, and the resulting chaos, was a good thing

The movie was an abortion. It cast V as the heroic freedom fighter waging a one-man war of social justice against a regime that was pretty much meant to portray the US and Bush.
