Funny thing I was in Fairbanks in 68 (decent earthquake) and had to run because of the flooding
/my family took a VW micro bus and did the Yukon Hwy before it was paved

I'm in the Interior (of Alaska), and we're still almost 4 hours away from our New Year.

/Parts of the Aleutians and points thataway are beyond the International Date Line, so they're both the Easternmost *and* Westernmost parts of the US, and they are in a far different time zone than the rest of us.

At the Fire and Ice festival in Anchorage last night we had hula dancers from Hawaii performing next to a giant paper mache volcano that erupted. Pele brought in the Alaska new year. The temperature was about 10F. I really felt for those Hawaiians dancing with all that skin exposed to the cold. I wish I had a video camera. It would have gone viral on Youtube.
