Meh. Marvel had the money before hand to make movies, approximately 525 million dollars in a credit facility. They didn't really get that much out of this deal and as a shareholder, I did actually vote against it.

I guess Disney is not getting enough power off the spinning corpse of Walt Disney and needed to add the spinning corpse of Jack Kirby to the generators.

I'm OK with this for now... but the first time Iron Man is flying over L.A. and has to stop to save a kid from almost falling from The Matterhorn, I'm boycotting that horse hockey.

A million times this. Warner is going to fark DC up the ass long and hard people won't know which way is up. Nelson isn't there to do anything other than whore out DC intellectual property to turn a profit for Warner and I guarantee you that they will systematically set about ruining the DC brand.

"Iron Man" was distributed by Paramount, which owns the rights to distribute at least the next few sequels. The "Spiderman" films were distributed by Columbia.

This gives industry ties (through Marvel) between Paramount and Columbia to Disney, Buena Vista, Touchstone, Hollywood, Miramax, Pixar. All will be able to make production and distribution deals with each other in the future, because Paramount and Columbia's ties to Marvel are untouched by this deal. All gain allies. Unless someone decides to exert a powertrip and wrest control of a production or a studio from the independence they now know, this can only be a win for all concerned: if something doesn't fit a certain mold, each has opportunities to find a spot where it might work better.

In Marvel's case, this won't be so bad. It looks like Disney just wanted Marvel's distribution network for their own properties. Disney doesn't tend to dilute the brands they acquire. Which is certainly smart on their part.

DC, on the other hand, is going to be farked in the ass by management until the corpse stops pissing quarters.

They should have done what Marvel did and have their own internal film studio to produce the film/television shows based on the character brands. It appears that Warner, by appointing this paper pusher, is attempting to do things almost exactly the opposite of Marvel - which is mind boggling because Marvel has 4 or 5 successful franchises based on their characters in film and television while DC has all but ruined superman and spent years sitting on the Batman property after they buttfarked it to death with the movies in the 90's. Both of the DC fiascos were Warner led initiatives while nearly all of the Marvel successes came from inside the company.

Warner doesn't have to appoint a comic book geek to head the DC Entertainment unit, but they should make sure that the person doesn't have the authority to launch any initiatives on moving the brand/characters to media. Let the internal units develop these strategies, then the head of the Entertainment unit can decide which ones get the green light. Driving this from the top down is a recipe for farking disaster because you know someone will go, "Oh hey we have this Aquaman property... how come we're not doing anything with that?"

I'm telling you people, the only thing that will come from this is action figures of Spider-Mickey, Incredible Hulk Donald Duck, and Iron Goofy. Oh, and Marvel will get extra finance and distribution power. That's it.

It doesn't bother me if there's occasional product placement in a movie. That's just a part of the business. If someone's eating at Burger King or driving a Audi, it doesn't pull me out of the movie because those are everyday things that people do - even superhero people. However, it crosses the line into shameless shilling when someone owns a property and then flogs their assets in everyone's faces as a constant reminder.

I'd say this could be the ultimate alliance.

Disney won't do too much because Marvel is violent. They will tarnish Disney's image if they let too much cross-over happen.
