My roommate bought a house one time. Then he misplaced it. It's in the apartment somewhere.

What an odd statement to put in an article... does the county have a big problem with tax-sales of homes that are unfit for habitation? If so why are they selling them?

Lack of notification? It sounds like a non-story to me. If I bought a house, and the city demo'd it without notification, I'd wonder where it went. When I found out, I'd stop worrying that housejackers got it, and go about my business. I mean, he surely knew it was condemned, right?

I think if I bought a condemned, rat infested house, with a collapsed roof, and it was gone one day, I could figure out where it went.

I realize that this is "Not News, it's Fark", but what the hell is the TV station's excuse for this story?

Guy buys a house that needs to be demoed, town demos it, he asks what happened, they tell him, non-story.

Reaaaaaaaaaaaly sloooooooooowly for you.
I do believe it was the writer's intent to go on public record in a subtle manner to demonstrate that the city is engaged in the illegal practice of billing the taxpayers for clearing lots that the landowner should be paying for.
If you are living in a corrupt town, this may be the only way to note on public record that this practice is going on.
Or, maybe the entire town is corrupt, and no one cares, and the writer is dumb.
/latter scenario is more likely in PA.

Unless you are the writer of the original story you are doing some serious reading between the lines. Most of which seems to be based on the names in the story, their perceived ethnicity and the stereotypes that go along with them.

Why would the city take on that kind of job? Couldn't they use the money for the demo for something else? Like schools or something? If someone buys land with a house they already know is a rathole it would be up to the owner to condemn the house and pay the costs? I dont get it (:

And having lived in that hellhole that is Pennsylvania, and having been reared amongst the various and sundry ethnicities that specialize in their own unigue forms of stupidity, I can attest that there is no town that is not corrupt, and there is no "perceived ethnicity" when dealing with wops, polacks, attractive and successfull african-americans, hunkies, mexicans, orientals, asians, islanders, micks, frogs, bread heads, and salt lickers that poplulate the regieon. They all have their own cuisine and their apartments all smell the same wierd way.
