Yes.

Was this a trick question?

I would SO do that if the Dept of Education didn't have lifetime borrowing caps.

Student loans are a gift to banks from the government. If you can game the system and get away with it, do it.

Don't forget the universities. I wish the government offered guaranteed loans to my customers.

I guess....When I looked at my student loan debt and realized I'd be $130K in the hole and pushing 50, I just didn't think a lifetime of studenthood and leaving my non-existent estate with a debt bigger than the US military expenditure was a good idea.

DMWJorge: Apparently this doctor hasn't realised that he can learn without going to school. (Hint: They're called books. Libraries have a lot of them.)

Another way to learn without paying: Audit classes. It's like going to college without earning the degree. But if you're genuinely interested in educating yourself on the topic....

I'm considering getting my Master's while I wait for the economy to pick up. I'd pay for it myself, though, no more student loans. I'm already nearly $50k in the hole, most of it from my freshman year at a pricey private college.

A couple of years ago, I found all sorts of job listings for technical writers. Now I can't find any. :(

Personally, I'd just read some books then walk to the post office to mail some letters. Kurt Vonnegut seemed to stick with snail-mail simply so he could chat with folks in lines at the post office. I certainly can't claim to be a better person then he was!

How else can people finance their expensive hair weaves, Rolex's, saggy jeans and monthly payments on their BMW's? You gottsa bounce from one community college to another and accumulate the loans. Just show up for class the first two weeks and JACKPOT! You got yer refund. What are they gonna do, put them in jail for failure to pay student loans? Their credit is shiat to begin with. They've got nothing to lose.

I think I'd kill myself if I were a lifelong student. It's both sad and I hate homework. While I have loans I plan to live very poorly for around 5 years. I estimate that if the average starting salary is around $30,000 I could probably live on 2/3 of that and give a 1/3 to the loans before taxes. Did I mention I do not plan extravagantly? I spend the most money on food and figure I can cut that down by a large amount and still eat healthily if I actually learn to cook properly such as making rice from real rice not a box. Roommates will save me from the crappiest side of town.

Lol, that always reminds me of the smartest kid of my graduating college class. He majored in ancient history and math, taught himself ancient assyrian and did some supposedly meaningful math work (good for a grad student, very impressive from an undergrad).

Very religious person too. Ended up deciding to go do graduate studies on translating ancient documents. Wouldn't want to accidentally do something useful with math I guess . . .

Doc Loliday: How does gay marriage allow you to report an income of $0? I'm seriously curious. Or am I missing something?

If you were straight and living entirely off your spouse's income while going to school, your family income would be their salary. But if you're gay with the same setup, there's no legal relationship, so you only report what you earn ($0).
