She's off to the animal house in the sky.

2009-12-28 03:09:27 PM
The animal was placed in the care of animal "rehabber" Judy Monestier, a 25-year animal rescue veteran. She specializes in fox, coyote, bobcat and a wide range of birds with Sierra Wildlife Rescue.

But she'd never seen an otter until last week.

Seriously? She's been a vet for 25-years but has never even seen an otter???

The ultimate rehabber's reward, she said, is releasing an animal back into the wild. "There's nothing like it. It's what keeps us going."

I don't know if tossing them in the trash can out back should be considered releasing them back into the wild...

You sure?

From TFA:
Animal rescue volunteer David Cook arrived shortly and took the otter to a veterinarian, who diagnosed a concussion and internal injuries consistent with a vehicle accident. The extent of the injuries and the otter's chance of recovery remained unknown.

The animal was placed in the care of animal "rehabber" Judy Monestier, a 25-year animal rescue veteran.

It was calm and looked up at him... not for help, but in knowing that it was in no condition to fight back, and wanted to make it easy to make that quick killing blow that it's predators know how to do instinctively.

Animals know about dying, they don't know about getting assistance.

Poor thing, and it woulda' torn me up to do it.. but it wanted the killing blow because it knew it couldn't forage for food anymore nor run away. The shock of what it was going through should've lasted it until it died, but man interfered further, so throw some confusion in the mix, and some fear, and prolong the agony by a couple of days.
