I thought it was going to suck. I was pleasantly surprised.

2009-12-27 09:22:24 AM
Holy crap, that was amazing.

2009-12-27 09:31:31 AM
I don't listen to a lot of pop radio, but that was really good.

What hazeleyedwolff said.

I've heard about two of those songs, liking one. I wouldn't like most of the rest if I heard them. I liked the mix.

I've been a fan for a while, his stuff is awesome.
This is one of my fav's from last year.

Ditto. That's was a hell of a lot of editing :)

It's not that hard when you consider that the majority of that stuff is already auto tuned making it 10x easier to manipulate

Yeah, we'll wait while you post yours, killjoy.

Individually those songs suck ass, but that was pretty neat.

2009-12-27 03:32:00 PM
My God, people do buy crap.

I had to shut it off at the first "autotuned" vocals.

2009-12-27 03:34:02 PM
I didn't listen to it, but judging from the sources listed, is the audio equivalent of your ear-drums exploding?

wow that was brilliant. some one needs to give that guy some money or a job something. that's talent!

2009-12-27 03:39:36 PM
Not bad. I didn't know half the songs, but still fancy.

It's actually pretty impressive. It's probably a lot better than any of the individual songs. It did seem like Katy Perry and the little blonde girl were the only ones actually singing with their real voices, so it had kind of a weird Daft Punk feel to it, as if a bunch of robots were singing the song.

2009-12-27 03:43:57 PM
AKA auto-tune is our friend.

2009-12-27 03:44:50 PM
I avoid the radio, so I'm fairly ignorant of what's popular. I can't say I'm missing much. I'd heard the auto-tune complaints, but hadn't realized it was that prevalent.

little blonde girl

The only one I recognized out of all that was Taylor Swift, who appeared in the last minute or so, and is small and blonde. Her contribution was "You Belong To Me".

I assumed the autotune sound was added in this mix, not the original versions. Please tell me I'm right.

2009-12-27 03:49:58 PM
The headline is wrong. However, if all the songs actually were all played at the same time, that might have been interesting.

2009-12-27 03:51:46 PM
That was eleventy times better than it had any right to be.

Nope. Autotune really is that prevalent in pop music.

I'm no audiophile, but I would say yes. But for a remix of 25 different songs, who ever mixed this is epic genius. Appreciate it for what it is. I'm talking to all you Buzzkillington_the_3rds out there.

He has been doing cool stuff for years now...he even wrote a book about Mash Ups (new window).

DJEarworm = best mashup artist on the surface of this planet.

2009-12-27 04:10:41 PM
OK, that was stupid like a United Colors of Benetton Commercial, or like the WWF "Land of a 1,000 Dances" dumb.

I weep for the childrens who don't know any better.

2009-12-27 04:10:59 PM
It's easy when they all have the same beat. Like all pop music today.

I'm glad to hear someone else thinks the same. May be a top 25, but none are in my top 25.
/my list kicks your list's ass
//rarely listens to radio

2009-12-27 04:29:15 PM
despite the tragic proliferation of Autotune, that was a surprisingly good song/mash up.

I love when computers sing. It's so majesticanificant.

Top 25 songs according to Billboard and I bought all the things the billboards told me.

The artist is dj earworm. He's got tons of great mashups available at his site. I've been a big fan of his for years now.

These mixes always impress me: it's challenging enough to mix two songs, but earworm routinely mashes together three or more. Now this is difficult enough when the songs are at similar bpm and in similar keys. With the United State mashups, earworm is given 25 songs which, for his purposes, are essentially random, and he manages to sew them together majestically.

I realize I'm gushing.

And just because:

- United State of Pop 2007 (his first)
- United State of Pop 2008: Viva La Pop

I thought that 2009 was a farking spectacular year for pop music. I think the last couple of months marked the first time in my life where I listened to the Top 40 station more often than I listed to any other station or my tape player.

/Has a tape player in my car.

Or maybe 95% of popular music these days is generic crap that all sounds the same

Taylor Swift is 5'11. Blond yes, small no.

The sum of the whole is greater than its parts. None of that is music I listen to, but the whole thing was pretty impressive.

//Anyone ever notice you don't see Mike Tomlin and will.i.am in the same place at the same time?

I'm impressed with the creator's talent to mix these songs together. I'm just not too thrilled with a lot of the material used to make it.

2009 is the year of AutoTune on the desktop!

2009-12-27 05:16:33 PM
Huh, that was actually pretty cool. A bit heavy on the I've got a feeling song, and a bit light on others, but pretty cool.

2009-12-27 05:23:00 PM
Bad music trope of the decade: More Auto-tune.
Good music trope of the decade: More mash-ups.

Dicky B: 2009 is the year of AutoTune on the desktop!

Which is why these folks found it amusing to start AutoTuning the news
