With the capitalized-O "Other", and the mention of Lacan at the end, I recognize someone else trying to make some use out of an otherwise useless philosophy degree.

/should have worked the phrase "panopticism" into there
//or maybe "jouissance"

I love it when people complain when lots of threads are greenlit about popular topics. It's never fails. TDK, Obama, Iran, anything. Always someone complaining about Fark covering popular things.

Well, god damn. I just had a fresh install on this laptop, and been gone from fark for a week. Re-installed Stumble, and this was my 5th click. I thought this review was too douchy, even for Fark, so I went on with my life. I have not seen the movie, but I doubt the peron who wrote this even saw the movie. He described everything that you get to see from the trailers.

Epic troll.

The second time the author made a statement and immediately followed it by saying "I made that up", I quit reading.

Saw Avatar in Imax 3-D, in the 3rd row. Agree with most of what the Author had to say.

Will be going back to see it a second time in IMAX 3-D anyway. Might even go a third time.

Do we think this will still be in theaters the 2nd week of January? I'm debating going to see it again by myself, or I can wait for my best friend to get back from overseas and see it together. But she won't be back till Jan 5.

Alright you mooks.

This movie is a better comparison to Avatar based on the presumption (that I believe is wrong actually) that this movie is some sort of white man fulfillment.

Dances with Wolves is the wrong film to draw the comparison to, even though on the surface level it seems to have a lot in common with Avatar.

In my opinion (take it for what it's worth as some anonymous guy on the internet). The "environmentalist" message is really one of Sustainable Consumption vs. Unsustainable Consumerism. The Na'vi certainly do consume the resources of their planet, yet they do so in a way that minimizes the impact, whereas the Humans in the movie fly from a distant solar system just for the purpose of gutting rocks out of the ground because despite all their technology they don't have the wisdom to manage their resources effectively.

A lot of the movie is set up dehumanizing the humans and "humanizing" the Na'Vi for the purpose that if Cameron doesn't do this, then they may feel bad for the humans that are about to get their faces chomped off at the final battle and send his message home to the audience - which isn't that we should all become tree hugging aliens, but instead that there are moral and ethical limits to how far someone can go to "preserve their way of life". In fact many of the humans that remain behind at the end of the movie seem content to remain human, they just don't want to be the type of humans that would butcher innocent people for some rocks (of which, I think the triteness of was intentional, again to drive home the point of the ludicrousness of the situation)

Of course, just my 2 cents. It's not like I'm a professional writer who gets paid to think about things before I put them before a ton of people...

Is that a serious question?

Are you familiar at all with movies? Even a shiatty bomb of movie will stick around in some movie theater for a month. Avatar is making somewhere between 16 and 20 million every day, and I think it is safe to say it will still be in theaters in the farking 2nd week of January.

Have you ever even been to a movie theater?

AVATAR THREAD

movie = masturbatory presentation. it could be about two asses competing as to who farts first, but you won't care because of the eye candy.

as a movie, crappy generic telegraphed "Chekhov's gun (^)" throughout.

Worst part for me was how it had the Jar Jar syndrome. Main blue farkers had amazing animation and attention to detail... group shots looked like a 3rd grader's CGI presentation.

See Jar Jar in woods vs. Gungan battle. diff levels of attention and those "blue monkeys around the tree" scenes just made me weep with how fake it looked.

Explain how this is less of an animated movie than Wall-E? Yet Wall-E ends up in the "Kung Fu Panda" category while this will be in the "real movie" category.farking academy.

///hates mass scenes of Cgi blue farks

If you would read my post in context, I was inquiring about IMAX 3D. Not theaters in general.

Smiths: as a movie, crappy generic telegraphed "Chekhov's gun (^)" throughout.

No. There would have to be a surprise ending for there to be a valid reference to the "Chekhov's gun" technique, or at least an attempt at one. The story was pretty straightforward from point a to point b.
