The problem is probably is than since guns are illegal in most part of Europe many people have never seen a gun in a real life, and therefore wouldn't be able to recognize an airgun from a real one.

Twenty years ago when I lived in Houston my roommate who was a BK Manager was robbed by a junkie at gunpoint. After the junkie got the cash he put the gun down and started counting the money on the counter. My roommate said he was 99% sure he could just reach down and pick up the gun but he decided that following the rest of his crew out the back door was a better idea. There was a donut shop next door and the Police came over and arrested the junkie while he was still counting the money.
