The pensioners in the comments section are raving about the superiority of steam over electric.

Apparently they don't recall London during the coal-fired epoch.

There are other ways to make steam you know.

I hate that version of Thomas The Train with Alec Baldwin as the conductor. Farking creepy.

Well, steam does have enormous motive power, especially when compared to standard diesel locomotives. And, while most of the later steam locomotives were oil fired, coal locos do have the advantage of have a extremely large supply of fuel.

Much better. I'm not usually one to nit-pick, but c'mon. You gotta save some punch for the punch line.

Gotta give credit to the British for this achievement. American rail fans would never agree on what to build. I'm a NYC guy, so I would build a J3 Hudson or S1 Niagara

That's really cool to see that the steam era hasn't completely died yet.

I don't recall him ever being Mr. Conductor. I do recall George Carlin, which is interesting because I later became a huge fan of his other work.

I'd pull for a Mikado built to 36-inch gauge, only because those were the biggest locos on the Oahu Railway.

Not sure if it was even in a show. He was the conductor in one of the movies my son loves and freaks me out.

It looks more like the "City of Truro" engine rather than Thomas, even ignoring the fact that it doesn't have a face.

As long as it remains Thomas the Tank Engine and not Charlie the Choo-Choo.

Don't forget Ringo Starr either as Mr. Conductor. Were Ringo and George Carlin doing community service projects for various "adult" illicit substances?

My son used to love Thomas when he was little and we got to ride an engine similar to this one a few times. But the boy's almost 6 now and Thomas has given way to more important things like construction trucks and whatnot. Still fun, but I miss watching Thomas with that little guy.
