This is one of those things that could have been done starting in 1999, but wasn't reported until ten years later. At least the New York Daily News decided to start this year by showing the Yule Log online. Must be some time loop.

The CW channel started playing the Yule log last night about 7 and.....yeah, it's still on! (I noticed this because I only have five channels.) With Christmas music....and commercials.

For those of you that are too young to remember...OR didn't live in the New York area back in the '60s and '70s. Here is what the WPIX-TV (at one time owned by the Daily News) Yule Log looked like. The original film was shot at Gracie Mansion, the official residence of the Mayor of New York City (at that time) John Lindsay.

Yes, they did everything they could think of to make it suck, didn't they.

The 'log' is different this year, or at least the version that is on at this ungodly hour.

It looks like it's a gas log, not real wood.

So we don't get to see some guy poke at it or add any logs this year. :(

/Merry Christmas!

Oh come on, it's not that bad. They added all the little Christmasy touches. There's even a little nutcracker in the corner.

WGN America has it on nationally. I'm actually watching it now for the first time. Makes my house seem all Christmasy.

In the category of "as if anyone watches this channel unless sports are on," the local My Network TV station started their Yule Log at 6am and will run it until 2pm.

To which I say "why??? I mean, you couldn't put children's programming on? Or some festive Christmas movie?"

2009-12-25 10:52:12 AM
Meh, we have 24/7 HD fireplace channel.....
Why, I don't know. $140 a month for cable and Internet and they give us a HD log channel???

2009-12-25 11:05:50 AM
It's big, it's heavy, it's wood.

2009-12-25 11:20:46 AM
I notice the Daily News weren't in enough of the Christmas spirit to remove their logo from the bottom-right of the screen....

We managed to throw on Stephen Colbert's book burning yule log for at least 4 hours yesterday, and no one noticed. And yes, it was a real fire, with an arm occasionally poking at the embers.

Merry Happy, folks!

Yule log online

Of course, I'll log online. How else would I get to Fark?

I made a CGI log (pops) a few years ago.

That is one long video. We just opened all of our gifts, and it ran the whole time. Of course, we didn't have very many gifts, but it's the thought that counts.

Makes me wonder if there another video on YouTube that gets less than 100 views avg per year?

Don't worry though, by the end of the day, your views will probably double :)

When I was a kid we always had the yule log on tv Christmas morning while opening presents. When I moved to FL I found out they didn't have it on tv down there. Someone sent me a video of the yule log they taped for me, better than nothing but not the same.

F*CK THIS. Watching the Holiday Fire on the cable access channel (now, on the HD Holiday Fire channel, or on DVD, which I own) is basically the only Christmas tradition my family has.

There's no way I'm converting to online Yule-viewing.

2009-12-25 04:29:28 PM
We bought it on dvd a few years ago.

(sorry if that's been mentioned)

My local station is running it with about a 1/4 screen size Duraflame ad slapped over it...for the entire 4.5 hours.

Nice work, farknuts. Its all very realistic. I'm totally fooled.

Plus, did anyone notice the subliminal messages in the Hypno-Toad video? I think I saw a hot dog with mustard in the top right corner at 44-45 mins...
