IT WAS THREW!!!

It's not bad grammar; it's a proofing mistake. Obviously the writer or editor was contemplating whether to use "threw" versus "was thrown" and then failed to remove the artifacts of the revision. This is considereably different than not knowing grammar. The same thing happens to you from time to time -- I've see it in your posts.

See? I misspelled "considerably" in my last post. There's your proof right there.
