The tiger one (#40) caught me off guard as I was slowly scrolling down and suddenly realized that the tiger had hands and was standing on 2 feet. Then my brain caught up and it made sense.

That list fails to include an awesome storm that hit the northeast US in early October, 1986. I was 5 at the time, and the snow was over my head in lots of places. 2+ feet in many parts of New England, 2+ months before it was expected.

Because it is winter. You see... it tends to get cold in winter and hot in summer. Even more amazing, it can be hot in some places at the same time as it is cold in others.

Trending on a daily basis is silly because any trend would easily be masked by seasons. Trending on a yearly basis is equally silly because of weather patterns like El Niño.

The question becomes how long do you have to watch to be certain of what you are seeing. And of course the answer to look at as much data as you can. When you do that, it appears to be trending upward. Localized drops do not discount the overall trend.
