coco ebert: SchlingFocker: Somaticasual: "She was on herbal remedies that wouldn't speed up her heart," Monjack said.

This should always raise a red flag.

People see "herbal" and they instantly think it's harmless.

Big mistake. Unfortunately, herbal products aren't regulated or tested by the FDA, unlike medicines.

They are regulated by the Food section of the FDA. . .still, unless people start using herbal's as a Drug, the FDA doesn't do squat.

OMG, Swine Flu!!

You know, it might not have been what you did the night before or that morning that killed you. Just maybe it was the decade of abuse that preceeded that.

I know it's judgemental, but it's hard not to be. People in their late 20's or early 30's generally just don't die from natural causes. Sure, you could have the teenager with the previously unknown birth defect that causes your heart to give out or you could have been the 40-something with the bad genes that dies while jogging, but it doesn't seem like there are a lot of in-betweens who die from natural causes other than cancer. They're kind of between that age past farked from the start but before limited lifespan due to bad genes.

Her upper lip exploded, that's what killed her. It nearly took out the neighbours, too.

She'd only have to last until he was the last man on earth, at which point he'd have his pick.

WFern: Quasar: Could easily be stress and congenital heart failure...

hockeyfarker: friend of mine dropped dead of a heart attack in high school. while she was running. It can happen.

This too. I have a heart defect myself. I'm 24 and otherwise in good health, but it's something I always need to be concerned about.

When I was working in So Cal back in '98 we had a girl in our office die of a heart attack over the weekend. She was something like 24 or 26? She had some sort of undiagnosed heart condition and just popped it one day for no apparent reason.

The "She married him so he can get a greencard" stuff doesn't make a lot of sense. He was already over in the states on a work visa. The thing is this: Even if your circumstances change (like say you get married) if you already have a visa issue, it doesn't matter.

Like say you are on a student visa and overstayed it. If you get married to an American citizen, it doesn't affect the status of the first visa. They can still chuck you out of the country. Of course, you may be eligible to come back under another visa type at a later date, but it won't stop you from being deported usually.

Anyway, this guy must have been stupid/lazy or broke, because it's retardedly easy to get a near permenant visa to live and work in the USA if you have access to cash. All you need to do is have enough start up capital and declare intent to start a business. This guy is a producer right? All he had to do was raise the cash and start a production company - visa problem solved.

Am I the only one who, upon discovering a woman I'm dating is on this many drugs, would promptly dump her ass? She's either an addict or 100% defective. Neither of which is condusive to a long, happy life or marrriage. Someone on that many drugs whether they need them or not is going to do nothing but suck at life.

Unbelievable.

Hubby better STFU since the only other realistic possibility is he killed her ass.

32 year olds without serious weight and/or drug issues do not just drop dead. Hell Chris Farley lasted longer and he was eating himself to death and doing mountains of blow all together

theorellior: According to the coroner, she had just a few prescription meds in her cabinet:

Topamax (for seizures or migraines), methylprednisolone (a steroid), fluoxetine (an antidepressant), Klonopin (for anxiety), carbamazepine (for seizures or bipolar disorder), Ativan (for anxiety), Vicoprofen (pain reliever), propranolol (for hypertension, migraines or anxiety), Biaxin (an antibiotic), and hydrocodone (a narcotic pain reliever).

Hmmm... I know I'm late to this party, but just looking over the list of drugs I see at least a few that can cause qt prolongation or torsades de pointes. I wouldn't be surprised if that was a contributing factor.

Brittany had a history of hypoglycemia and was hospitalized in April. The flu like symptoms are consistent with hypoglycemia

I had this very discussion several times since the death. "Clueless" cute and healthy, "Sin City" looking either anorexic or on crack. Honestly I think she's looked too skinny since "Don't say a Word."

there is the slight possibility she went in to a diabetic shock, especially if she didn't take her insulin(which can put on a few pounds, hello hollywood) if she waqs sick prior, and did go into said shock, she could in fact have died from a non drug related issue . . . but i live in this town, i work in this business, so my first thoguth also was drugs, unfortunately (has prior experience w/ teh ugs-drae)

I started reading the list and was like okay, we all get headaches cool, predisone is pretty common treatment for imflammation of lungs from infection okay that fits with the flu story, and then I hit the carbamazepine..... Tegretol...seriously Tegretol?

Coming from being married to someone who does actually take antipyschotics Tegretol is up there on the power list and has a whole host of nasty effects including cardiac arrhythmias and EEG slowing.

Really? I had to take that for my headaches and aside from my memory now being suckier - I didn't think it was even that strong. I probably should have checked more.

Fail in Human Form: Care to explain the difference for those of us in the cheap seats?

Cardiac arrest means your heart stops beating. (Similarly, respiratory arrest means you stop breathing.)

A heart attack (myocardial infarction) is an interruption of blood flow to the heart muscle.

While a heart attack can cause cardiac arrest, there are lots of other things that can cause it as well (including drug overdose and chemical imbalances in the body).

Braindeath: Really? I had to take that for my headaches and aside from my memory now being suckier - I didn't think it was even that strong. I probably should have checked more.

You got the low dosage amount, she was already on Migraine medicine which pretty much seals the deal that she was on it as an anti-psychotic. In many people it causes EEF problems and either bradycardia or tachycardia.

What surprises me is that if she was taking it as an anti-psychotic why the fark her clinician wouldn't just put her on some form of lithium as well.

Trust me as someone who lives with a crazy person.

Tegretol isn't an antipsycotic btw

I take a very high dose everyday for bipolar disorder, and all things equal, the drug causes no problems. However, if I don't eat enough, or if I am sick, I get very ill. There's a thin line between the therapeutic range and toxicity. When I had strep throat, tegretol toxicity put me in the hospital for a week. I vomited literally every 10 secs, I couldn't get up off the couch with dizziness, my eyes couldn't focus, and my blood pressure plummeted. It had something to do with the extended release and not eating, plus the illness itself. Here and there, I slip into these episodes where I get tegretol drunk where my words slur and I can't walk a straight line and I want to throw up. Time and lots of food seems to fix it. I could see that really farking you up if you have other issues.

It works tremendously for me, so I put up with it.

2009-12-24 02:05:49 AM
I take a low dosage of Tegretol as an anti-seizure med. Apart from a wonky memory, it has no side effects. Certainly nothing that would affect an EEG.

CWeinerWV: Tegretol isn't an antipsycotic btw

Carbamazepine was originally used as an anti-psycotic just isn't these days because there are better anti-psycotics. These days Carbamazepine is mostly used to treat seizures, mania and bi-polar disorder.

I know about Tegretol firsthand. My dad had some relatively minor heart issues. The doctor put him on Tegretol for something-or-other, and he died of a massive heart attack 2 days later. After reading up on Tegretol, I'm pretty convinced that's what killed him.

Wanna know something else? The doctor's name who put him on the Tegretol was Dr. Risk. Seriously.

so...did anyone read TFA?

Before that, in 2001, she told a columnist for the entertainment blog TheWrap.com that she would never take drugs because she had a heart condition.

"It was in an interview about 'Sidewalks of New York' but I asked her about other projects and she mentioned 'Spun,'" columnist Michael Adams recalled for the Web site. "I asked her -- as a joke -- if she'd taken meth for research and she laughed and said even if she wanted to she couldn't take drugs because she'd had a heart condition since she was a little girl."
