A Tout Le Monde: Narcissism is a fair assumption. Everyone has it to varying degrees . . .

Not me. I'm better than that.

I like what Richard Roeper just tweeted about the sentancing:

"Balloon dad gets 90 days. After 90 days they should say, "It was a hoax, you actually got 180 days."

They're letting him out during the work week. Not that rough a sentence.

When the judge wants to hammer you he tries to make you lose your job as well as jail you, fine you, and poke you with sticks.

that's after 30 days
the first 30 days is straight jail time

Wait a minute, so for 20 random days of her choosing, the state will give her free food and a warm place to sleep? how is that punishment if she can check in and out at will? Sounds like 20 days of staying in a crappy hotel rather than prison time.

She will sleep at home. The sentence is 20 days supervised community service.

This. And not only that, it's not 20 consecutive days, she's allowed to do 10 weekends! By the time she arrives, gets cleaned, deloused, strip-searched, changed, and fed, it's almost time to go back home.

What a total waste. Their sentence for wasting taxpayer money and time is the further waste of taxpayer money and time.

I thought it was crap that they charged Mayumi Heene with a misdemeanor (instead of the felony charge her husband got) to speare her having to face deportation to Japan. It shouldn't have been a consideration. Same crime, same punishment. We shouldn't give the collateral effects any more consideration than the Heenes did.

I think she was going along with it for the same reason the kids initially were: Daddy's an asshat and it's best to not make waves. I think the leniency of her sentence is fine.

But for the father, nothing!

So he got 90 days including 60 days of work release, but she only got 20 days? Why did she get a significantly lower sentence? Was she less involved? Or is it because she's a "she", and not a "he"?

Basically.

Women are the lessor sex. They have a harder time telling right from wrong. Additionally, they lack the mental fortitude that men have; so it's very easy for a man to take advantage of them.

Because of this, our society gives them certain perks....like lessor jail time for the same crime.

Right or wrong, that's how it is. And while you *will* probably hear some chick somewhere complain about how a girl should make as much money as a man - you'll never hear a girl complain about the fact that more than 90% of people killed on the job are men, or why women don't have to sign up for the selective service, or the fact that women routinely receive lighter sentences for the same crime, or that women are just as likely to abuse their children or to abuse their spouse.

So yeah, 'equal when it's good' and 'unequal when it's good' == Modern Woman's Rights.

Plus there's some evidence that Mr. Heene (not the Hotel Manager of the same name) is a petty little tyrant whose madcap get-rich-quick schemes is on par with the later episodes of Perfect Strangers. One such instance is a 'humorous' driving instruction book that classifies drivers via race. I'm guessing that any judgment against him would have to take his sanity into account and the role of the mother in making sure that his stupidity doesn't take out his kids as well. So Mom--even if she's stupid enough to stay in this--is the sensible one, so she gets a free ride while her hubby gets it up the ass.

That's akin to "Zero Tolerance Penalties" which never work well.

Besides, it's doubtful she was the mastermind behind the hoax.

Yeah, because our justice system should just be a computer and not take into account that this mom being sent away from her kids would leave a burden on the state, and not consider that this asshat dad is likely to still be a hopeless asshat 10 years from now, whereas this mom might just pull her shiat together so she can raise her kids.

I for one have no problem with them playing the odds and saving us all some money, and giving the kids an outside shot at a future in the bargain.

I'm guessing mom got lesser jail time because she was the first to admit that the whole thing was a hoax while her asshat hubby with the ridiculous haircut was falling asleep during his polygraph. Basically, the DA probably cut her a deal for rolling over on her hubby.

How is removing the mom making the kids a burden of the state? The dad will still be around. Or do you believe that only a mother can raise kids?

We have no idea how much or how little she was involved in this scheme. Sentencing is sexist no matter how you look at it.

Someone (I think it was Hart Hanson) said that America has become one giant West Wing Actors Retirement Home/Casting Call.

I think Balloon Boy Dad actually thinks his stunts are entertaining and born out of freedom, and that the rest of us want to see these stunts. He is ready at any time to perform for us, and just bursting with story lines.

Someone asked me recently why Americans are so willing to be on "reality tv" or like to imagine themselves as at least trying out for a show.

I really don't know. There are lots of Japanese reality shows too, is all that came into my mind. And a few in France.

Does England have them? Germany? Holland? I'd like to see a Dutch reality show.

Karachi cops has been cancelled.

They should skip jail, and just have a big dude beat the shiat out of Richard Heene. Just one good beating, on behalf of the American public.

And they can put it on YouTube.

Don't kill him. Don't maim him. Just rough him up. Maybe break a bone or two. Rub his face in dirt. Humiliate him in front of his wife and kids, and when it's done and he's laying there with his own underwear stuffed in his mouth, you say "Congratulations. You're famous. Suck it up, jackass."

As for the mother, well, she must be a crap mother to go along with her husband in teaching their children to lie to people as long as it makes them famous. Seeing as Richard wrote a book where he calls Asians a variety of racial slurs, she's probably being abused or pushed around by the guy, and so I can't fault her too much; She's probably afraid of him. Unfortunately, the one place a woman should be able to conquer her fears is in protection of her children. She fails at this. Her kids are farked up and won't grow up well because she caves in to her husband's obsession with fame.

Considering all that, I think some classes in parenting and assertiveness are necessary and preferable to jail time. Maybe if she learns to stand up for herself and her children, she won't get dragged into a stupid stunt like this again... or even better, she might just leave the jackass and take the kids.

But really, I'd just thoroughly enjoy watching a large-ish rescue worker who gave up his day trying to rescue Falcon hammer Heene in the head a few times. Maybe knock some sense into him.

One must also wonder if anyone else in that area suffered slow reaction from emergency services because so many resources were tied up in the balloon chase. Did someone else lose a relative because the Heenes tied up emergency services?

Colossal jerks. They deserve worse than they got.
