He's too small time to get major party support. Cops and magistrates will make charges go away, judges will be lenient, that's all. Party leaders don't owe him anything. He can be replaced. Cambridge is a guaranteed (D).

Just for you:

As Gaviglio enters the room, the six-foot-two, 225-plus-pound Kennedy grabs the five-foot-three, 103-pound waitress and throws her on the table. She lands on her back, scattering crystal, plates and cutlery and the lit candles. Several glasses and a crystal candlestick are broken. Kennedy then picks her up from the table and throws her on Dodd, who is sprawled in a chair. With Gaviglio on Dodd's lap, Kennedy jumps on top and begins rubbing his genital area against hers, supporting his weight on the arms of the chair. As he is doing this, Loh enters the room. She and Gaviglio both scream, drawing one or two dishwashers. Startled, Kennedy leaps up. He laughs. Bruised, shaken and angry over what she considered a sexual assault, Gaviglio runs from the room. Kennedy, Dodd and their dates leave shortly thereafter, following a friendly argument between the senators over the check.

I have to wonder why the conservatives are outraged that Ted Kennedy killed someone, but like to give Laura Bush a pass for killing someone.

OK, so people get into car accidents for running red lights. But that's not like getting drunk, driving into a river, and then leaving your passenger in the car for hours until she drowns.

One of these things is a reckless accident. The other is a huge WTF?

Because Laura Welch wasn't drunk and didn't go home to sleep it off then try to cover it up.

There is a huge difference in circumstances

Why is it different? In both cases, irresponsible behavior led directly to the death of an innocent. No matter how hard you want to spin it, both have blood on their hands, but conservatives only seem to care about the blood on the hands of the liberal.

Here's a bit of advice, Massachusetts. How about elect a Republican to something, just one. Your state legislature is 90% controlled by one party. If Saddam Hussein was alive, he'd laugh at you.

adp1215: Do you honestly not see the difference?

I see a difference. Drunk driving is, objectively, the worse crime. The decisions Kennedy made following the incident were quite possibly, the worst he could have made, and someone died as a result. He should have gone to jail.

Laura Bush's incident, while the circumstances weren't as dramatic, was a result of her blowing a clearly visible stop sign, hitting another clearly visible car, and killing the driver as a result. She should have gone to jail too. Her brakes didn't fail, the weather wasn't bad, and there weren't extenuating circumstances.

Kennedy's actions after were definitely worse than Bush's, I'm not going to argue that. The point is both of them killed someone in a car accident as a result of incredibly irresponsible behavior.

My question is why is the blood on Kennedy's hands somehow worse than the blood on Bush's.

One criminally fled the scene, slept it off, had a big breakfast and then called his lawyer. Are you confused which one it was? I'll give you a couple of hints:
1) This person was kicked out of Harvard for cheating only to be reinstated because the left love royalty
2) They spent a career touting how 'green' they were, only to block the plans of windmills because he could almost make them out on 'his' shoreline.

Both of them killed someone due to their irresponsible behavior. Don't give one person a pass because you agree with them politically. There are two people dead, but only one seems to matter to you.

Also, what the hell do these have to with the incidents? They are completely unrelated, and only serve to try and make Kennedy look somehow worse. Unless you are trying to say his cheating at Harvard, and his hypocrisy were mitigating factors in the accident.

YoMammaObama: You really don't see the difference, do you?

I do, and I have explained myself. You don't seem to care at all about the person Laura Bush killed. The kid's life was ended violently, because Laura Bush blew a stop sign. She acted much more responsibly after she killed the guy than Kennedy did, but she still killed someone due to her irresponsible behavior. She had the choice to stop like she should have, but didn't and someone died as a result.

You try to downplay that little fact.

2009-12-23 12:40:50 PM
YoMammaObama: Why do you not care? The guy tried to pretend it never happened, and you don't care? how do you reconcile that?

He should have gone to jail immediately. I'm not trying to excuse what he did.

YoMammaObama: accidentally running a stop sign while sober is no comparison to drunkenly leaving your girlfriend to drown in a river and never reporting it. Since you are incapable of seeing the difference, you should warn any of your future girlfriends or wives about your problem seeing the difference. They should know. Really.

I'll let them know when you let your loved ones know that if they die as a result of someone blowing a stop sign, you won't be too upset about it.

So you hold that same standard to Neilia Biden for failing to stop at an intersection and killing that innocent little girl?

2009-12-23 01:19:34 PM
While utterly implausible and almost certainly a lie, the guy's story is not actually impossible. Breathalyzers are notoriously inaccurate when the test subject has had something in his or her mouth prior to testing. In most states, the applicable regulations require that a testing officer verify that the subject has had nothing to eat or drink, and no foreign objects in the mouth (cigarettes, gum, orthodontic appliances) for at least 15 minutes before testing. I got a client's first degree negligent driving (basically, getting in an accident after drinking but without being legally impaired) busted down to a second degree negligent driving because the arresting officer admitted that my client had used her asthma inhaler shortly before he tested her.

What I have read is that she did stop, but pulled out in front of a truck. Here:

According to the State Police investigation, she pulled out into the intersection and didn't see a tractor trailer coming down the highway. The truck crashed into the side of the wagon killing Joe Biden's wife and his 13-month-old daughter. His sons, three and four-years-old, were critically injured.

A distraught Biden considered giving up his Senate seat, but was urged to stay on. His emotional swearing-in was conducted at his son Beau's hospital bedside. Meanwhile, law enforcement officials investigated the accident. Was the truck driver drunk?

"There was no evidence at the time that was presented to me that the driver of the truck was impaired by alcohol," Jerome Herlihy says.

INSIDE EDITION spoke with Herlihy, who was a Deputy Delaware Attorney General at the time of the accident. He was called in to oversee the police investigation.

"If there had been any evidence of anything there would have been at least some charges of a violation of a traffic law," Herlihy says. (new window)

Is the Truck driver involved in this worse than Ted Kennedy,Aarontology:? Sure, he didn't technically do anything wrong except be at the wrong place at the wrong time, but more life was lost. Logic is not kind to some Farkers. It is a tragedy and its a shame it happened, but not all accidents are the same. Few are as coldhearted as Ted was.
