(Denver Post)   Balloon Boy parents hit with a tab of $42,000 for their October stunt. Will probably have to sell their share of the Brooklyn Bridge to pay for it   (denverpost.com) divider line 140

The balloon boy family should have their picture on the american flag.

While they should be required to pay this - and more - the reality of it is that they will not pay a dime.

Sadly, you're right. The state ought to put a lein on any and all income these people receive until the entire debt is paid in full.

Just garnish 25% of wages, 100% of any tax refunds or other income.

Fark, even if half of those costs are to cover coffee and doughnuts for the emergency workers, that's plenty legit to me. How many of those people could've been doing something much more useful then chasing down an empty balloon?

/I wonder how long the Heenes will have to pay it back?

Would make a great reality show too.

They got off easy. Cartoon network paid millions for Boston's incompetence, without any deliberate hoax involved.

From TFA:"Let's see the bills," he said. "They're not paying anything until they see some receipts."

I'm sure they're getting off easy only having to pay $42,000.
Total cost of the fiasco is probably way more than that.
Didn't they shut down Denver airport for a while?

My second act will be demanding a bacon and cheese sandwich

"They don't have that type of money", Fark that! Mom should be on her back and dad should be on his knees until every last dime is paid. They screwed America, so now it's their turn to bend over.

They might also have to sell their Kool Aid Stock.

How about we give them a choice? They can either

* pay back the $42,000, or

* we get to put them in the stocks for twenty-four hours and whoever wants to walk up and spit on them gets to spit on them

"If they've got records to show these are legitimate costs, then we can discuss it," Lane said. "But, first off, these people don't have that kind of money."

Fark them. They caused a 911 panic -- as a publicity stunt -- and wasted taxpayer dollars and the valuable time of emergency responders. Tough shiat if they can't afford to pay for it. Take everything they own and garnish their wages until the end of time.

Since when is "I don't have that much money" a legitimate excuse? Should have thought of that earlier, idiot. "Oops, I vandalized an animal research lab but I don't have $300,000 to fix it." "Oops, I played mailbox baseball in my neighborhood but I don't have $40,000 to fix it."

Fark them.

Anyone know if there are any actual networks seriously shopping around to make a reality show on them? Seems like they got dropped pretty quick once it was found out to be a hoax, but I wouldn't be surprised if TLC still wanted to make some kind of show out of it.

/like you wouldn't watch the first episode at least

Marley'sGirl: What about the people who report their kid missing when they actually murdered them? How much should they pay?

Your right, that is unfair. The Heenes should be offered 20 year prison sentences as an alternative to the fine.

Because they really aren't a threat to society. We lock up rapists, murderers and drug dealers so they can't hurt anyone else. These people can only hurt themselves.
