andrewabc: I read fark for the pics: No... That was Afternoon Delight.

Not according to google maps (new window) which has afternoon delight next to the horse race area (civic centre).

The one I'm thinking about is on university avenue Here (new window).

Yeah that's wrong. Unless they moved and a new sex shop opened were they were within the last few years and AD moved close to the CDP. I moved to Alberta 3 years ago and AD was downtown, close the the Shell and some seafood restaurant.

The internet is awesome! Where else can you get google map locations for sex shops to refute an argument?

cephalien: Nanan: littlett's: I wonder if they lost a lot of their business to internet sites too?

A good number of small store front retailers have been plowed under by online sales. A store front can not compete with a warehouse in terms of overhead costs. My mom dropped her store front part of her business two three years ago and went pure online sales and her overhead costs dropped by about $900/month and her gross sales increased by about 5 fold in the first year.

It sounds like your mother runs one of those EBay 'bring it in and we'll post it online for you because the internet is a strange and frightening thing' stores.

Specialty plants, hybrids, cross breads, and the like.

IMO she focused to much on one thing and specialized herself out of a viable market for the area.

Pocket Ninja: There used to be a sex shop in Georgetown Springfield called The Pleasure Chest.

FTF those of us who think that sounds like what a sex shop on the Simpsons would be named.

Or maybe, The Moan Depot.

Pocket Ninja: There used to be a sex shop in Georgetown called The Pleasure Chest. I think it closed some time ago. I'm not in Georgetown regularly, but I haven't seen it in a while. But back in the day, on the few occasions I went in there to, uh, use the phone, the only people you'd ever see were packs of giggling teenage girls. They liked the suction dildos that you could stick on the wall and jiggle. They'd stick a big 8-inch purple dildo on the wall and take turns batting at it like a pack of giggling cats and the clerk in her leather bustier would glare at them over the counter but not say anything and there would be a pack of pimply-faced teenage boys staring at them from the window and the girls would notice the boys and start giggling again and one would screech OH MY GOSH at the top of her lungs and they'd scatter to the back of the store where the little knick-knacks, the wind-up walking penises and vagina-shaped earmuffs, were stored, and they'd wait there until the boys had left and then they'd scamper out and it would be quiet for a moment and you'd breathe a sigh of relief and then the door would open right as the purple dildo lost suction and fell off the wall and a new pack of teenage girls would scamper in. It could make for a long Saturday night.

Best part is that there is a town in PEI called Georgetown. Not that anything good ever came from there.

Ok, that is what I originally thought too until I google mapped it.

But in the comments at cbc one person says it was next to horse area and smelled, and no traffic. So I'm guessing it moved or something (the one that closed is next to civic center, no idea if there is still one next to gas station/seafood/bible store).

Really, won't somebody think of the underage types here, who on earth would talk about S-E-X in front of the C-H-I-L-D-R-E-N?

Sex Cauldron? I thought they shut that place down?

Those places are losing because why would someone risk $50+ on a new porn dvd with 5 scenes when for 50 bucks on the internet you could buy access to several sites for months with enough content to keep you fapping 24/7. Plus you don't have the chance of running into your boss, co worker, ex wife, pastor... With a copy of "irritable bowel syndrome vol. 15".

I don't think the recession killed the place. I think the new location killed it. At least downtown it got exposure.

/heh, exposure
//this many Island farkers, we need a meet or something.

I'm pretty sure sex shops don't rely on DVD sales. They sell other stuff...

Another Government Employee: I assume they cater to the guys on their last chance power drive?

Yea, but it's not a discrete location since there's no place left to hide.

People still pay for porn? I realize this Internet thing is new, but they should really take advantage of it.

2009-12-22 05:10:44 PM
People no longer go to that store to blow their wad on pornography. Damn.

So, let me get this straight...There was a "sex shop" that both admitted underage types, and had a sales floor that was visible through an unobstructed window from the street?

Sorry Friend-o...but:

Cindies - Gulf Freeway, Webster, Tx. Display visible through the front window & I've seen teenagers in the store.

I don't think it was interenet sales or the recession that is causing this shop to close ...

Do you know how much the average jizz mopper makes? I don't know if you've noticed, but come leaves streaks if you don't clean it up right away.

Strange, I've never heard the phrases 'flaccid interest' and 'limp customer demand' before. Great puns though, it's always funny when a common phrase is used in a context that gives it a new layer of meaning. It's just a shame I hadn't heard these ones before so they didn't work on me. But I must assume they do exist otherwise there would be literally no reason to invent and use them for this headline. I guess I'm just not down with the hip lingo the kids are using these days.
