Well a proposal this big should be tackled incrementally. Let's start by subjugating the sovereignty of all of the African nations to American governance for say, ten years. If progress ensues, we can proceed to subjugate the Middle East, E.U. and others. As long as America is doing the transcending, I might just get on board with this.

OK, I'm going nuts here trying to remember this stupid movie I once watched. It came out in the late 80s or early 90s, I think. There was this character in it who was this pretentious pseudo-intellectual who surrounded himself with really dumb people, or at least people he thought were really dumb, in order to make himself seem more smart. One of these people included the girl who is the main love interest in the movie. This guy was very fond of talking about how the ideal government would be a benevolent dictatorship, and had a well-worn pantry of empty-headed philosophical gobbledygook to back it up. Then one night he was at this party with the supposedly dumb girl and he's launching into his pretentious little "college sophomore I'm an intellect" speech to impress people and this other guy is at the party who's in publishing or something and this new guy just tears the pseudo-intellect apart in front of the girl and makes him run out crying. Well, maybe he's not crying, but he's upset and he leaves. I think he leaves. And the other guy, who actually is an intellectual, gets the girl. Or something. Maybe he doesn't. I don't really remember anything else. Actually, I'm not even sure I remember all that. Maybe this all exists only in my head. But I'm not having any luck on Google so if any of this sounds vaguely familiar, I'd appreciate a title. I want to know what it was.

The nation state as we know it will eventually die.

We are moving to a world government as block of countries unite such as the EU. That will happen more and more.

The problem with a country like the US its patriotism and its self interest.

2009-12-22 09:49:31 AM
I have a solution to this problem. A method of creating formalized aggrements between nations. We could call it a "treaty." We could then imagine a network of these "treaties" which bound or "united" nations together into some sort of "league" or other organization through which they could cooperate.

The only way any one form of governance would work is if people had a unifying reason to set aside differences. It is in our nature to divide ourselves as from an evolutionary stand point we do better genetically when divided into groups.

This is why I welcome the Alien invasion from Seti Alpha 9

So says OMA partner Reinier de Graaf, not-very-noted architect and all-around global warming hand-wringer. Of course, it would be best if decisions were taken by unelected bodies like ASEAN, MERCOSUR, and the EU. It would neatly do away with all that pesky democracy sh*t, and let the global intelligensia get on with the important work of saving the planet and making sure that the masses are alowed only those things which are deemed best for them. Undoubtedly, OMA partner Reinier de Graaf, not-very-noted architect and all-around global warming hand-wringer has a respectable and well-compensated sinecure in mind for himself in this proposed august body...perhaps Green Steward and Bailiff of the Organic Hundreds, or Lord of the Recyclable Toilet Paper, or something similarly appropriate. Yes, that's a capital idea, OMA partner Reinier de Graaf, not-very-noted architect and all-around global warming hand-wringer. You go, girl.

rastjr: The problem with a country like the US its patriotism and its self interest.

Fark you.

That "problem" created arguably the greatest nation in recent history. It's been abused by the elites and whore politicians, for sure, but it showed great potential there for awhile until Kennedy caught a few bullets. We simply ignored the warnings of the true statesmen, from the Founders through Eisenhower and on to even the most recently mocked like Ron Paul, and let it become what it has today: a snotmold of a corrupt corporate state run from without, without secure borders, quickly losing our national identity.

The answer is not to complete the dismantling; the answer is to get back to basics.

Of course, this won't happen with a generation of sheep who have been systematically trained not to think but to follow. We're pretty much doomed, but it wasn't patriotism and self-interest that did it.

BULLSHHHITTTT!!!

"What we need is a form of governance which transcends the sovereignty of the nation state is isolated from corporate lobby money and which represents the true owners of this Democratic Republic:The People"

if you take out the lobbying/money influence on our Government, then you return the Government to its rightful owners:The People.

the wealthy and big business Turds don't want that, they like having their own personal Government to run this Nation into the ground for their own profit.

wake up people, this is not rocket science.

Private capital tends to become concentrated in few hands, partly because of competition among the capitalists, and partly because technological development and the increasing division of labor encourage the formation of larger units of production at the expense of the smaller ones. The result of these developments is an oligarchy of private capital the enormous power of which cannot be effectively checked even by a democratically organised political society. This is true since the members of legislative bodies are selected by political parties, largely financed or otherwise influenced by private capitalists who, for all practical purposes, separate the electorate from the legislature. The consequence is that the representatives of the people do not in fact sufficiently protect the interests of the underprivileged sections of the population. Moreover, under existing conditions, private capitalists inevitably control, directly or indirectly, the main sources of information (press, radio, education). It is thus extremely difficult, and indeed in most cases quite impossible, for the individual citizen to come to objective conclusions and to make intelligent use of his political rights. (Albert Einstein, 1949)
