I wouldn't worry.. The blackouts came at 7AM and 9AM .. and everyone knows the only time there is activity at that airport is between 11PM and 2AM

Seeing as I just went to a Senate Aviation Operations, Safety, and Security Subcommittee hearing on December 10 and listened to FAA Administrator Randolph Babbitt ramble to Senator Begich (D-Alaska) about how Alaska is the best in the US when it comes to air traffic control (when questioned about previous ATC outages in the lower 48), I'm gonna get a kick out of these replies...

What ever happened to Sarah Heath anyway? You'd have thought a hottie like that would have eventually gone somewhere.

FTFA The FAA had batteries on order for some time but had some trouble with the manufacturer or supplier, Lewis said.
Now the agency has scrambled to get batteries and expects to have them in town Tuesday and installed Wednesday, Lewis said. "There's certainly no neglect," he said.

I am afraid to think what would constitute neglect in his book.

So let me get this straight. There is a person responsible for keeping the batteries charged/fresh. He has placed an order. He has received some information from the manufacturer indicating that the order can't be fulfilled on time. He now knows that the batteries are past their replace date and are not effectively operational. And yet nothing is done.

No. Certainly no neglect. No neglect at all...

this would have been a more appropriate headline.

What's worse, the old fart was a sitting senator when they named it for him. "Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!"

Oh no, no neglect at all. What a Cluster Fark that place seems.

"In other news, todays arrival was delayed due to lack of functioning equipment. The FAA was able to use their cell phone to call the pilot and tell him to leave an hour later take his time arriving later that afternoon."

You know, because air traffic is heavy there, both pilots were inconvenienced.

*sheesh*
I blame Palin

Everyone knows if you suddenly need more power you plug in the energizer bunny. Does anyone, besides me, think that Energizer Batteries should be a corporate sponsor for Lance Armstrong's next bid for the Tour de France? The Shack and the bunny...they keep goin' and goin'...

BTW, if I stand on top of Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport's control tower can I see Russia?

Why do I find it strange that they have named an airport after a politician who is still alive, and under indictment no less? Especially when the guy is such a colossal douchebag. Usually this type of honor is bestowed upon the departed after a lifetime of doing good work for mankind.

Anchorage airport is too busy with more important issues like making sure first class passengers have special treatment cutting in front in the TSA screening line, even though they pay exactly the same 9/11 tax as everyone else , $2.50 for each flight segment.
Who has time to make sure the batteries are charged?
OH ! maybe the employee who minds the line, doing nothing but waiting to coddle wanna-be bigshots, could check the systems.
