If I give any woman money, odds are she will put a b-- in my hand.

A woman that accepts your c-- doesn't necessarily like you

If your d-- won't fit into the machine, then try using c--

If 2010 is part of the 00s, was 1990 part of the 80s?
Was 1980 part of the 70s?
Think before you post

Not really. I guess it depends on when you start counting.

If the 20th Century ended December 31, 2000, Then this century and decade began on January 1, 2001. So Jan 2001 - Dec 2010 would be the first decade of the 21st Century.

I've always maintained that the 21st Century started January 2001. It's just a rounding thing, I guess.

But, hey, what do I know?

I enjoyed the video, but I don't think it was a "best of the decade" It was too heavy on the recent election. I think they should have had some olympic clips in there, and more stuff from earlier in the decade.

Still funny though.

This.

If done right, a "best of the decade" set could last over 10-20 minutes. They should have taken the time to censor clips from back before Kimmel even started doing this stuff.

2009-12-22 01:47:35 PM
Did they get reaction shots from Guillermo and Uncle Frank? Before and after each clip? And then ask them about it afterwards? And then cut to them before commercial break?

A decade is ten years.

1. 2000
2. 2001
3. 2002
4. 2003
5. 2004
6. 2005
7. 2006
8. 2007
9. 2008
10. 2009

Also, as flapjack pointed out, by the logic of people saying the decade doesn't end till after 2010, then 1990 was part of the 80's etc etc.

Regardless of the "millenium" and it's start, the DECADE started on January 1, 2000 and ends December 31, 2009.

Anyone who thinks otherwise thinks wrong.

I agree that a decade is 10 years, but at the beginning of the calendar there was no year zero, therefore:
1= 2001
2= 2002
3= 2003
4= 2004
5= 2005
6= 2006
7= 2007
8= 2008
9= 2009
10=2010

2009-12-22 09:25:23 PM
This is year 2009. If you subtract 2000 years, it becomes year 9. we still have one more year to go until we get 10 years. Thus, The decade ends December 31st, 2010.

So, you believe that 1990 was part of the "Eighties," and not part of the "Ninties?" That 2010 was part of the "Aughts?"

Interesting.

From Merriam - Websters:
Main Entry: de·cade
Pronunciation: \ˈde-ˌkād, de-ˈkād; especially sense 1b ˈde-kəd\
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French décade, from Late Latin decad-, decas, from Greek dekad-, dekas, from deka
Date: 15th century

1 : a group or set of 10: as a : a period of 10 years b : a division of the rosary that consists primarily of 10 Hail Marys
>

A decade is any period of 10 years. We can define the start and end years any way we wish. Common usage defines the decade as starting with a year ending in zero. Do not confuse with millennium. However, if they said the first decade of the 21st century. (Or calling it the 3rd millennium, ala Mr. Izzard) Then you may argue the fine points.

Who cares about year 0? There was a year 2000. That's what we are talking about. If we use the decade you said, then 2000 is part of the 90's and 1990 is part of the 1980's etc etc. AND THAT MAKES NO SENSE!

As mentioned earlier, a decade can be any 10 years. So the decade of the 80's CAN be from 1980-1989. BUT, if you are going to talk about decades since the beginning of the calendar we have to say that 2010 is the last year of this current decade. Otherwise the first decade of the calendar would only have 9 years (1-9). But since the first decade was 1-10, the same would be true 2,000 years later. 2001-2010.

For crying out loud...

The "century" concept and the "decade" concept are different concepts, based on different types of groupings. They dont line up. They don't need to. They dont change on the same year.

"decades" are grouped by their 2nd digit. Centuries are grouped by counting from year 1.

The "90s" ended in dec 1999. The "Century" ended in dec 2000. This "Naughts" decaded ends in a few days.

Now, if the groupings were based on the same sort of thing, and we said "ninth deacade of the century" or "201st decade" THEN the "decade" would end next year. But we don't do that. Nobody does that.

So yeah, the "Naughts" decade ends in 9 days. Not next year. The "first decade of the 21st century" ends next year. But that's not how we group things historically.
